Dry firing XDM

New to my XDM and to pistol shooting. I have read that dry firing at a target is a good way to instill muscle memory on aiming, steadiness, etc. I have also been told that dry firing can harm the pistol. Please advise.

Dry firing will not hurt your XDm. If you don't feel comfortable doing it, buy some snap caps, like Azoom.

It does not hurt a center fire handgun or rifle to be dry fired. The only "theoretical" damage ever mentioned is excess wear to the striker retainer pin. This is the roll pin that you can visibly see from the top of your slide just behind the ejection port.

I have never had any problem with mine and I have heard of only a few that have broken. I feel it was probably more due to a bad pin rather than from use.

In any case, the pin is cheap and easy to replace yourself if it ever breaks. I ordered several extra pins from Pistol Gear just for the sake of having them.
