gun maintenance????
Ok I purchased my first handgun. A XD-45c. Have fired about 30 rounds through it and need to know what I should be cleaning, oiling, etc. Also any recomendations on a good cleaning kit or do I just need the rope and some oil?

Most of your standard all in one kits work fine. Make sure all the junk is cleaned out and lude/oil anything that rubs together. I bought some Q-tips to help the cleaning process. Pay extra attention to your barrel, keep it clean. SAFETY FIRST!
This will help. Gun Cleaning

i prefer a barrel brush, tooth brush, hoppes #9, hoppes gun oil, a rod and some cotton swabs, and a cup for the hoppes #9.
there are plenty of threads on cleaning, but i'll try to summarize here:
swab the barrel with #9 and let it soak. scrub the internals with the toothbrush and some #9 (but try to keep it out of the striker channel, apparently...i've never had a problem). wipe everything down. push the brush through the barrel a few times, swab again with #9 soaked swab, and swab until clean (you may have to repeat a few times if you shoot a bunch). lightly oil points that rub or contact metal, put it together, and wipe it down with a silicon cloth.
others have different rituals, but this one is mine for most cleaning purposes.

I was looking at all the cleaning supplies at cabelas and they had so much I decided to ask around before purchasing.
Is it ok to ise a bore snake on an XD? Not too abrasive?

Bore snake works great for swabbing out the bbl but you eventually have to field strip it & clean the gunk out. Amish gave a good accounting of basic maintanance.

Keep lube, cleaner, grease away from striker face. I apply Slide Glide to rails and Mobil 1 sparingly on metal to metal points. This guns run as well dry, if not better, than overly lubed.
