Too much cleaning?

Here is the deal. I give my baby a bath every time after a session of spitting lead. Call me ocd but i have it for home defense, i dont want anything to go wrong if shtf. Question is noob question. Could there be any ill effects form so much cleaning. I shoot about once a month about 50 rounds to stay fresh and zeroed. So only about 400 rounds shot so far since i have had it. Can cleaners hurt my baby after time being it a polymer gun. FYI i use hopps #9 to clean as well as CLP. 45 brush and chiffon wipes. Can papertowels hurt the gun. i would like to find something more readily available to help clean the gun. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Opinions on this subjet very (a LOT). Mine is that you are doing it just right. Every time I shoot a gun I mop the bore and oil everything my corrosive hands have touched. I may not do a filed strip every time.

Regarding Hoppies & CLP on the polymer, I'm new to polymer frames myself, but I have to beleive that the manufacturers are smart enough to design with materials impervious to the most popular cleaners and lubricants.

Not true on the mfgr's idea. I dont have any ill-effects on any of my ploymer handguns. But my browning Gold shotgun with the "Dura-touch" finish on it didnt hold up to Gun Scrubber. But, its more harsh than Hoppes and CLP. But some of this stuff will damage plastics, or in my case, the coating. They now make a safer scrubber meant to be used around plastics.

I strip and clean every time too. I think it's fun and a great way to know your pistol inside and out. I am fairly new to all this but I hope it doesn't hurt anything..

Nothing wrong with what you're doing. I clean my firearms after every outing. I also clean my carry pistol once a month whether I shot it or not. You'd be surprised at the amount of dirt and lint that can build up over a month. Keep doing what you're doing. Hoppes and CLP shouldn't do anything harmful to you pistol.

I shoot 2 to 4 times a month and clean my gun after every range session.

i use hoppes #9 solvent to clean and use rem oil to oil the slide and certain spots i have seen on a video to oil and use rem oil on the barrel on the outside and use the hoppes colvent for the inside and clean that out, then use the brass brush to go through the barrel a few times and then clean it with solvent again. Then i use rem oil on the outside of the slide.

Does that sound right?

A clean gun is a happy gun! Personally I do not believe there is such a thing as "too much" cleaning...unless the gun is already clean and the effort is otherwise futile.

Stripping and cleaning affords you the opportunity to carefully inspect the parts & pieces for wear or breakage that could cause a malfunction. Also, it removes potentially corrosive substances from the mechanism which can cause harm or impede proper cycling....both are VERY important for a carry piece.

Instead of paper towels, take an old tee shirt and cut it up for cleaning and oiling rags. Most people have plenty (so they are basically free), they leave no lint, are absorbent and won't scratch any finish. I also keep one that is oiled in my safe and will wipe down any gun I handle every time I open the safe...even wipe down others just as an excuse to fondle them for a minute.
