Angry First time cleaning...a question.

I just cleaned my XD9 SC for the first time. I was surprised how much effort it took to get the wire bristle brush down the barrel! I wondered if the brush Springfield enclosed was for a .45 or something. Is this normal?

I started from the back forward and try to turn the brush in the same spiral as the rifling; but then I had to pull it back and man was it tough.

dont pull the brush back out until it has gone all the way through. That brush is not the best, but it works. IMO if you really want to spend the time cleaning it get a cleaning kit with the propper size brush and cleaning jag and clean with patches.

I thought that brush was for cleaning the inside of the trigger area, not the barrel.

Step 1: Open case
Step 2: Throw away included wire brush
Step 3: Buy a bore snake or other cleaning kit

dont use that brush period for the barrel get a brass barrel brush for your caliber cause the snake and everything else dont scrub enough to do a good cleaning and the cleaner you keep the barel the more accurate it will be

Bore snakes are like wiping your butt with the same piece of toilet paper over and over. In case you didnt get the analogy they suck.

Yep, I got a boresnake, used it twice, and basically it's no good anymore it's so dirty... won't buy them anymore... I'll stick to brushes, jags and patches.

Get rid of the brush that come with the XD Gear and get yourself a decent cleaning kit. Also make sure you push the brush all the way through the barrel before you back it out.
