XD-45 Carry Concealed Mod
I have been practicing with my XD 45 (unloaded, triple checked, with ammo in other room of course). i use a Comp-Tac Minotaur MTAC IWB. I seem to keep having problems with my draw and re-holster, i keep snagging up. Either on the kydex or leather of the holster or the edge of my shirt. I spoke with a local PD firearms instructor and he said that i need to have something called a carry bevel done to the edges of my gun. Here are my questions:
1. What is a carry bevel?
2. Where can i get it done?
3. Is it necessary? or is there some other solution to my problem?
Thanks!

Isn't that just dehorning everything? They round off all of the edges and smooth out everything so that it is less likely to snag. I don't think it is necessary as many people, including LEOs, use the XD without any modifications.

I think as long as your draw is good, why bother?
You may need to draw very quickly but why would you need to holster in a hurry?

+1. The holster should fit the gun. You shouldn't have to modify the gun to make the holster work.

Carry Bevel means knocking your XD outta Square. Yeah, dehorning, basically removing any edges that might snag on something. Unless you're a LEO re-holstering isn't of much use really, just getting back in eventually will be fine, it's the presentation of the firearm that takes practice.
Practice makes perfect, just remember that while your intentions with your ammo in the next room are fine, 45ACP ammo weighs a lot and is a significant portion of our XDs weight. Drawing an empty XD 45 over and over isn't going to be a lot of use in terms of muscle memory. What I've done to avoid any mishaps and still practice with a relevant weight is get me a pack of snap caps. I top off my magazine with a snap-cap as well as having a chambered snap-cap. That way even if I get somehow Extra Dumb (It happens) worse case is I cycle a Snap-Cap into the chamber and not a live round. Besides, dry firing into a snap car is preferable in my mind.
FWIW.
Oh and while I am dry firing my snap caps at the TV I do compulsively press check and re-check the chamber as I cock my XD ensuring that there's a snap-cap and not a live round.

I disagree. Re-holstering should be as smooth as the draw and also be acomplished one handed while not having to look at the holster.
Here is an example. You think someone presents a threat to your life so you draw your weapon. Now say you realize it isn't a life and death threat, just a simple assault on you by someone using empty hands (no weapon, just his fists). Now you are stuck defending yourself with a gun in one hand.
To me the re-holster is ALMOST as important as the draw. Just my opinion though.

I've had no problems reholstering my XD45 service or XD9SC, and I use a variety of different holsters. What is catching? Is the takedown lever hitting the holster, are you jamming the barrel into the kydex, ect.
