XD-45 Carry Concealed Mod

This is a discussion on XD-45 Carry Concealed Mod within the XD-45ACP Discussion Room forums, part of the XD Talk category; @madawg_70: All the earlier conversation assumed (IMO) that if the gun is ever drawn that escape/evasion/dissuasion/etc was not possible. You probably missed his last reply ...

You probably missed his last reply to me....in NC their law is rather "particular"...too much so for my tastes.

And apologies to all for the "drift"...hey, lets talk about holster mods instead!

First they have to choose to prosecute you. In Nevada you shoot an unarmed man in a dress shirt, pants carrying a brief case you claim was swinging at you like a weapon in broad day light after a fender bender you can bet your a** your going to jail with a civil suit to follow.

If you have a thug dressed up in all blue or red and has tear drop tattoos, a grill being on the wrong side of town at night with your car broken down - The chances that the guy has gang affiliations and has a record are good and you have a good shot at proving self defense even though he has no gun. This is of course considering you screamed at the top of your lungs, "step back I have a gun and I intend on using it" at least 2 times.

Of course I wouldn't even consider drawing in sit #1 but you bet your a** #2 is gonna happen if he doesn't start walking the other way when I draw. If a man comes with in 10 yards of you before you unholster your weapon he will get you with a knife or a crow bar first. Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6

Sorry Lunch time rambling !!!!!! Practice your draw - weapon/holster modification should not be necessary otherwise the combo wouldn't be so popular. In my mind its the cheapest and most consistent thing you can do!!

I was talking about not having the option to evade, escape or retreat. If you have to defend yourself and don't have the gun as an option because it is a simple assault you should be able to holster quickly.

Someone also mentioned having the bad guy take the gun away from you and use it on you. Everyone should practice and have some trailing on weapons retention on a drawn AND holstered weapon. I forget the exact percentage of LEOs that are shot with their own weapon because it has been a long time since I was an LEO but the figure was shockingly high.

I also understand the concept that it is better to be judged by 12 than be carried by six.

+1 on the SuperTuck. I tried several IWB holsters and could not find one comfortable for me until the Crossbreed. Use it for my XD 45c and service model.

HUH?!? So what? What are you supposed to do? Holster your gun so it's a fair fight?

I got news for you: If someone comes at me in an alley with nothing more than his two fisted hands, he's still going to get ventilated.

Suppose you put away your gun and then he demonstrates his lifetime-acquired skills of breaking-your-ass-with-his-bare-hands. Oops, too late. Your gun is already in a safe place.

I assume you are right handed and lifting your shirt with your left hand. do you continue to hold it with your left hand until the weapon is drawn?

If your clearing the leather fine on the draw then there shouldn't be a problem. If the snag is in re-holstering then just take your time securing the firearm, there is no rush. The weapon should not come into play unless you have made up your mind to use it.

Rushing or fumbling a re-holster could mean you get a size smaller pair of shoes your next visit to the shoe store.

+1 Holding the shirt up until you begin to extend the firearm from your body keeps you from snagging the shirt and from running into a "fingers bang bang" conflict.
