Drop-in BarrelThis is a discussion on Drop-in Barrel within the XD-45ACP Discussion Room forums, part of the XD Talk category; I'm considering a drop-in as to preserve the barrel with matching serials. Worth it?...

The Barsto 4" ported are also extended, which I don't want. It may seem like I'm trying to be difficult, but I'm just being really picky about the look and function of the XD. They also don't mention anything about compensation, just porting, which from what I understand, there is a difference. Barsto seems to be the closest so far tho.

Please excuse my ignorance, but isn't a compensator just and external means of accomplishing what porting does by a more internal means?

From the way I understand it there are both internal and external compensators and then there is regular porting. I could be wrong, and hopefully someone will have some info to point to if I am. Regular porting is the diagonal cuts at the end of the barrel, which is purely for noise making. "Internal" compensation doesn't involve threading the barrel, but merely cutting ports of a specific size into the barrel to achieve a specific amount of compensation from the gases exiting them. Then there is the external compensation which is what the Springer compensator is...threaded onto the end of the barrel from what I can tell.
Like I said, if I've got it wrong please correct me.
