Question Salt water and the XD??

So I'm going dip netting next week. If you live in Alaska you know what dip netting is... if not I'll explain it to you later. So my question is I'm going to carry my XD45C in a chest holster.(Like this... a better picture) If I get salt water over my chest waders like I usually do will the salt water damage my XD???

If not flushed with fresh water pretty quickly, the parts that aren't Melonited will quickly rust.

+1 Saltwater is a pretty aggressive corrosion agent when it comes to bare metals.

Okay, I don't live in Alaska and I don't have a clue what nip netting is, but I would think that if you are going to be carrying a gun in a stream in Alaska you would want something that would put a bear down or at least have a chance at it. I think .45 ACP is the best round for a man stopper and thus I own a few .45 ACPs, but I wouldn't use one for one of those big Alaska bears. I would think a stainless .44 mag is the way to go or something bigger still like the .454 or one of the giant S&W "X-frame" guns. Best of all maybe a Mossberg 12 gauge Marine (as in stainless) shotgun loaded with slugs. Again, I don't live there so I don't know what I am talking about in this, I just think any auto is bad news for bears.

Nip netting in Alaska is where lots of people.. meaning 1000's (at one time)try to gill net salmon. Using a long metal or wood pole to hold a 3'x3' gill net at the end of the pole. Walking or standing along a beach usually. So I'm not fishing with bears... only the two legged animals. My 45acp should do.

I might add that your response is a non sequitur to this thread.

use a 1 gallon Ziploc baggie. reduce the air volume to where the bag is "molded" to the XD. then it is in a "go get it" state . you should be able to fire the XD from the baggie .

a dear friend of mine was rafting here in AZ and carried his "piece" in a Ziploc. they found it in the river, dry, after the boat flipped and dumped everyone and everything out.

good luck on your quest!

Birsong's Black T works good on saltwater immersion for the Special Forces, and the Navy.
