Powder River vs Springer trigger kits?
Ok, what exactly is the difference between the PR safety lever & over travel stop kits, and the Springer precision offering? I see the SP has a new sear and a bar and some springs, whereas the PR stuff has a couple small set screws that i never saw used in the How-To threads here. Obviously there is a price difference, and the PR stuff looks easier to install myself.
I'm looking to shorten the takeup and overtravel on a XD45C. Will the PR parts do the trick? TIA, Vic |

Depending on which Springer kit you mean, they include springs to lighten the trigger pull too.
Yes, but don't use the set screws. Get a PRP Overtravel Stop and install that along with their Safety Lever.

Both can use (or not use) the lighter weight springs to reduce the force of the pull to shoot the gun from the factory 7-8 pounds to a lower 4-5 pounds pull.
The Springer kit replaces the sear (to reduce pre-travel) and a new trigger bar (to reduce over travel). The Powder River used the original sear and trigger bar, but changes the mechanics of the trigger by replacing the trigger safety piece with a redesigned one, and reduces overtravel by either drilling the frame and installing a set screw to prevent forward travel of the trigger bar, or with a polymer piece that does the same thing. I know the PRP kit does require some fitting, I believe that the Springer trigger bar can require some fitting, but never having done it, I certainly defer to somebody who has, and stand corrected if I'm incorrect. IMHO, both are outstanding gunsmiths and great people to talk to with your questions.

To add to this: How does each mod affect the reset point and feel?

I had a nice chat w/PRP on the phone today regarding their products. Since they do not require altering the frame or OEM parts (only adding/replacing), I suspect that is the route I will go. That way if I don't like the results, I can reinstall the factory bits, and be back where I started.
According to the video somewhere here on the site, the reset & takeup are reduced a great deal by these mods. |

I don't think there can be a universal answer to this. Each gun is slightly different and that's why some of these kits will drop right into a pistol and work great while some will need minor fitting.

I posted a thread with the measurements of my trigger after installing the PRP kit here on xdtalk.

Here is my take I put the PRP kit in my XD45 with the canyon creek spring set total of $50 My buddy got the Springer kit with the springs and the springer trigger bar. total of $120. Both kits required some fitting nothing to bad. My trigger is shorter and lighter than His but his is a bit smoother. If I had to do it again I would still get the PRP kit. My buddy says he would also go with the PRP kit if he could do it all over. After shooting them side by side you can hardly tell the difference. both are outstanding inprovements over the stock trigger.
the pull on my 45 is 3.5 lb and his is 4lbs so it is really not noticable unless you put a pull scale on it. You can feel the difference in trigger travel but being fitting is required he may have removed more material than needed. You wont be disipointed in either.

If I were going to start with just ONE of the Powder River parts, which would the hive brain recommend? The Safety Lever kit, or the OT stop? Which has th e greater effect on the trigger?
