Mistake or good call?
I got the .45ACP 4" XD for carrying. Should I have held out and spent the extra to get the compact, or is this going to be good enough for me?
My next gun is going to be an HK USP Compact .45 that a friend is giving me a great deal on, and that may be better for carrying with the XD serving the purpose until I get that. Any other opinions on it at all?

I also carry my XD45 everyday and with the exception of some really hot Florida days, its very comfortable. If my day at work will be including a lot of outside wandering, I will put my rig in my Jeep just so I dont get so much sweat on it.
I think a compact would make it slightly easier to conceal but I dont know that it would be that much more comfortable. Still, an XD .45acp is a heavy piece to carry sometimes.

I've carried the 4" .45 in a C-TAC around the house and on the property (not having my CCW class until next week, so I can't take it out yet), and it feels alright. I just worry about the print when I sit down or bend over. I'm tall and skinny (6'3" 150lbs) so it shows off quite a bit if I'm not careful. I'm sure most of it is my imagination, but I don't want people to start thinking I'm carrying because of the grip making it look like I have a hump.

As many have pointed out, it's not the vertically-carried barrel length that is the major issue with concealment... it's the grippy bit that sticks out that's the problem. My Walther PPS will be my daily carry with the small mag, but I got the compact XD in the event I wanted to carry a .45 as inconspicuously as posible.

Worst case scenario, you cut down the grip. A few of our sponsors will even do that for you. It's not a mistake.

I carried my XD45 Service but the grip was to long... didn't want to get another XD... so I grip chopped my Service to a Compact.
Here is a pic of it... ![]() A thread on how to do it is here.... Grip chop; a how to... Carry what ever feels comfortable for you. Good Luck.
