Ammo trouble...
Anyone have trouble with the Federal Prem HST's in their .45ACP? I load up the 10 round magazine, and it barely clicks all the way in (can't eject it without pushing up on the bottom first) and I can't get it to rack a round into the chamber. I take out one round (leave the other 9 in), pop it back in and it will load a round and the magazine will eject somewhat more easily. It's still not as smooth as with my snap caps or FMJ rounds I use. What's the deal? I'm a little apprehensive to use them because of this.

Have you tried another magazine yet?

SlimsBFG... any thing of the feed ramp? Is it polished? Is the ammo chewed up or nicked up? Where is it jamming at? I don't have any problems with HST feeding or ejecting. Are the lips on the magazine bent? Try a buddies XD45acp magazine and see if it does the same thing.

Sorry...don't own a compact series so I know nothing about those mags.
However, in my XD45 service in full size, I have no problem fitting 14 rounds (13 in the Mag + one in the chamber) of HST +P...and no failures to feed or failures to fire. As a matter of fact, I have a harder time fitting all 14 in with other brands of brass case ammo. Something about the nickel plating on the HST cases makes them "smoother" for lack of a better word. I've never taken a dremmel or any other kind of buffing tool and officially "polished" my feed ramp, but when cleaning, I do pay special attention to that area and buff it up real good with my polishing cloth. |

Ummm...I figured out the problem! Let's just say it was operator error! HSTs work just FINE in my gun...I'm just an idiot!
The resolution is to DEPRESS the GRIP SAFETY! Holy Jeebus! Here I thought I was being all cautious trying to rack the slide while keeping both safties engaged. For the times it worked I must have been depressing the grip safety just enough to get it to go. I had a moment of clarity and checked the gun manual and sure enough, my instinct was correct. Oh well...at least now I know my gun is fine. |
