An XD M in .45?

After looking a new XD M at the gun store, I could not help but wonder if the .45 was going to be streamlined and made over also. Is my new pistol going to be made "obsolete" by a newer high speed-low drag version?

As long as I can get parts I really dont care and most all the M factor stuff seems cosmetic.

I dont think that they plan on getting rid of the regular XD. I havent heard anything yet about the XDm in other calibers. I'm sure they will eventually though if this one does well.

I would be greatly surprised if they come out with an "M" version in either 9mm or 45acp.

FWIW, it is my belief that the XD-M was created as 40S&W sized pistol from the ground up, rather than being an adaptation of a smaller 9mm, as the current XD40, BHP, Beretta 96 and some 3rd generation S&W pistols are to name a few. Being adaptations of 9mm pistols, their frame size limits the number of rounds fitting a doublestack mag to 10-12. With the redesigned XD-M, you get a true 40 S&W sized hi-cap pistol.

Since the 9mm and 45acp XDs were designed for their respective calibers, they do not suffer from a lack of capacity, so I doubt there will be anything other than minor upgrades to the existing XD line in 9mm and 45acp.

JMHO as I have no insider info...

Prepare to be surprised. 9mm by the end of this year and 45ACP next year. XDm will stay a seperate line of guns and the "old" XDs will still be made. That is what the representitives from Springfield hinted strongly at the NRA show.

My "Obsolete" .45 acp XD Service.

I wouldn't worry, you still have lots of upgrade options.

Hello
I E-mailed springfield a month ago and asked about 45acp and 9mm in the xdm and they e-mailed back and said very late 2008 or during the first half of 2009 between jan and march.

Yup, my dealer confirmed the 45 in early '09.

Question: After looking at the picture I just have to ask, how can your pistol cycle with that thing on the barrel?

The barrel only moves back about a quarter to a half inch.
