Sights Off

I took my new XD to the range this past weekend for the first time and was disappointed to find that my sights are off. At first I thought that it was something that I was doing wrong. But my groups were tight and consistently off to the left. However, I still thought it was something that I was doing. Until I found this board and ran into a couple of threads that had other people saying their sites were off. So I checked mine out and sure enough the rear sights are off to the left. Bummer...... But I absolutely love the XD and can't wait to get the sights fixed so I can zero in on the targets.

Are you left or "low and left"?

If left only but still middle and consistent groups, probably sights. If low and left consistently, probably you're using a little too much trigger finger and jerking the gun as you anticipate recoil/trigger break.

That is a bummer man, It wont make you feel any better, but I took mine out last night for the 1st time too and she shoots perfectly.

First three shots were about 3/4 of an inch to the right of the bullseye. Unfortunately I forgot my ear protection so.... I only shot 10 rounds total and was nearly deaf for about 15 minutes. Yes it was a stupid thing to do but Ive had my XD for 3 and a half weeks, and last night was the 1st chance Ive had to shoot it and getting out there with no ear protection grrrrrr. didt have time to get back get the plugs and get back out to shoot so....

Even with my ears ringing and dreading every shot all 10 rounds went where I put them, I was really impressed.

Yea Im not making you feel any better, srry : (

Hello all, new to the forums. I figured that you could use these as a reference to double check your sights before you part with your beloved piece. I have used this to help others with great results. You can use them as targets if you want or just them to reference your shots. There is one for lefties and righties. Hope it helps and you don't have to send it off.

What exactly does "Too little trigger finger" mean? I can put a pencil in between by right index finger and the frame, I touch the trigger in the middle of the pad, and shoot groups about 4" left at 7 yards.

Let your gun therefore be the constant companion of your walks.

Consistent left. About 1 or 2 inches off center to the left. Can't remember exactly what the distance was. But it is definately sights. After looking at them they are noticeably off to the left which would explain why I am shooting left.

Too little finger means that you are using the tip of the finger instead of the middle of the pad. I use the middle of the pad to squeeze the trigger.

I feel for you man. While in the Army I went to the range to qualify one time and I noticed that I forgot my ear protection while I was sitting in the foxhole. I decided to man up and take it instead of bringing it to anyone's attention. I thought my ears were going to explode. I fired 40 rounds from an m4 with a kevlar on to help echo the noise in my ear. I thought I was bleeding from the ears Anyway I understand your pain.

Here's a thought: don't use the sights, just point and press. You just might surprise yourself.
