Why not a 1911?
Just wondering:
Those here that carry an XD45 (service or compact) daily, why don't you carry a 1911? Is it reliability, ammo count, weight, etc? I'm posting this here and not in the 1911 forum because those guys would probably add why they DO carry. I want to hear the other side since I am considering a new 1911. I don't want to get one just for the H@$$ of it, I want it to be a carry SD weapon. Thanks everyone, |

I have 2 1911's and love them. The 1911 was the only .45 caliber pistol that I'd ever owned that really felt comfortable in my hands. I figured that I would just have to deal with the fact that I could only carry 9 rounds (8 round Wilson Combat mags with 1 in the pipe) as I couldn't imagine a double stack .45 mag pistol that I could hold and shoot comfortably until I picked up the XD45. I couldn't believe how well it felt and shot. It fit my hand like a glove and shoots beautifully. The magazine capacity sealed the deal. Even if you live in a low cap mag state, you're still better off by 2 rounds minium.

and the lack of rounds makes me carry spare mag... kinda sucks but i deal but my 1911 is my back up to my comp

I stay qualified on both my Colt and my Kimber. Love 'em both but I'm ready for a double-stack polymer.
Once my new glasses get I'll be able to see the target again and I'll qualify with my XD45 |

Thanks guys.
The reason I picked up the XD45c was that it felt better in my hand than the Glock. I love the simplicity that comes with just having to deal with pulling the trigger, but I held a 1911 today at my local gun shop and I'm a bit ashamed to admit it felt pretty good. I liked the fact that it was a bit heavier. They offered to let me shoot it this weekend (a full size Kimber TLE). I'll let y'all know what happens. |

i have shot both and carried both. used to have a 1911 sold it and will get another later when i can afford it. i prefer to carry the xd over the 1911. to me it it was just a little too much for cc . that and i like carrying 13 plus 1 in the shoot. hell if i really need it i got the 380 backup hidden still

I do CCW a 1911 OM. I would like it abit better if it were an alloy frame, heavy. I love my XD45Tac so much I am considering a XDcompact, not just the extra few rounds but the XD shhots so well for me.

I actually own & carry both depending on how I am dressed, as in how tight my pants are! The slim profile of the 1911 (a Kimber Custom Classic) and it's sweet trigger are for the tight pant days & my .45 Compact is for loose pant days!
