XD-45 ACP Tactical IWB Questions
I am a new XD 45 5" tactical owner and will be carrying it concealed. I need to get a good IWB holster and am R/H, about 300 lbs and big framed. I am somewhat new to all of this and my head is spinning so please pardon my newbie questions but need your help.
I would like to wear the holster IWB somewhere around my 4 or 5 o'clock. 1. I really like the big XD 5" tactical I have but some have told me I should get a 1911, if I want to go IWB (which I do) because it is a lot thinner. On someone my size, however, bigger feels better. Is the XD 5" tactical out as an IWB? 2. For IWB at around my 4 or 5 o'clock, should the pistol be in a forward cant with the pistol butt facing upward and the muzzle pointed to my weak (left side)? ie, when I reach behind my back, should my palm be facing my back with my thumb pointing to my right hip? or should the pistol be situated so as to have the back of my hand against my back when I draw (in which case, the pistol butt would be facing downward)? Thanks. |

I'm 5' 11", 200 pounds & carry a 45 tactical in a Crossbreed Supertuck. I also got the Crossbreed belt, which is excellent. I'm new at carrying, but the holster is comfortable and my only issue is getting used to the weight and the belt, since I've only worn suspenders for the last 10 years. As far as positioning the gun, try different positions and cants. Mine is most comfortable, and easiest to draw at 3:30, but that may not be right for you.

I'm 6'1" and 280lbs... I use a Crossbreed Supertuck. I carry a XD9SC, XD45Compact and a PT-145 (same size as the 9mm). The angle and position is at 4:30-5:00... just behind the hip bone. When driving its at the right position and feels good there. I have it angled back.... so that the back site is the highest point of the carry.(It's called reverse cant) FBI cant is when the grip is at the highest point... I tried that but it hurts my gut... Just the website at CrossBreed Holsters, Innovative holsters for concealed carry-1911-Glock-HK-Sig-Taurus-Kimber-Springfield-Colt-XD
The tactical bbl is too long for me and the grip is to long for CCW. The bbl sits way to low on my body. Good luck.

A XD45t is pretty big for a IWB CC pistol. I have one that I CC'd with for a few times, much easier with something else
There are lots of companies that make good holsters for them IWB I like a Bianchi 100 professional, Done Hume or 'the gun store' on ebay all make good IWB holsters for a XD. Holsters really are a matter of comfort, especially IWB ones

Try Brommeland-that's what I have for my compact.

Seems like i've shared this many times, but ...oh well.
I carry my Tactical every day in my Crossbreed supertuck. It's very comfortable on my 6' 225 lb. frame. It wears invisably under any untucked shirt. The Tactical sits snugly due to it's longer barrel. Short barreled pistols tend to stick out a bit rather than sitting flat to your side. I also wear this rig in between the waistband and the belt, so the belt holds in the weapon yet is more comfortable being outside the pants waist. Hope this helps shed light? |

Comp-Tac Minotaur Spartan. I got one for my XD45 Compact and have been very pleased with it. The Crossbreed is supposed to be excellent as well although I haven't owned one personally. Of course there is allways the Milt Sparks VM-2, if you don't mind waiting...and waiting...and waiting...
