SideArmor/SuperTuck>?<
I posted this in the accesories area and got a few answers. Does anyone own both and have opinions or have expeirence with both? I currently have a cheap Galco leather holster and seem to only be able to wear it in the appendix area. I would like to carry at 4-6oClock. Also how do I determine what cant angle I need. Also does the supertuck sweat guard get annoying? I would really appreciate some quick reviews and pics.
Thanks for your time, Oh this will be for a .45C CrossBreed Holsters, Innovative holsters for concealed carry-1911-Glock-HK-Sig-Taurus-Kimber-Springfield-Colt-XD Sidearmor: Kydex® Holsters, Shotgun Equipment, Rifle Equipment and firearms accessories

I've had both holsters, the SideArmor IWB and the Crossbreed Supertuck, both for my XD45 compact.
I'll give you what I don't like about both: CBST: I had to trim a lot of leather off to get it right. What do I mean by right? Well, as it is from CrossBreed, when you reach to grip the pistol and draw, there is too much leather in certain areas that prevent you from getting a proper grip. There is too much in the area where the grip safety is and the "webbing" between your thumb and pointer finger get caught on it. There is too much leather around the front strap where you end up having trouble getting your fingers between the grip and the leather of the holster. There is simply an excess of leather in a lot of areas where you need to be able to get a good grip. The clips that attach the holster to your belt are quite fat/wide. On the holster I have, which I'm the third owner, I actually traded my SideArmor for the Supertuck, it doesn't have a channel for the loaded chamber indicator and sometimes during holstering, the indicator gets hung up on the kydex. I don't care for how part of the slide sticks out below the kydex and isn't covered. The retention isn't adjustable. Other than that, I like it. SideArmor: First off, I hate J-hooks. Hate them hate them hate them. Secondly, I hate the J-hooks on the SideArmor especially. Why? Because the only way I could get the holster to remain consistently in the same place and at the same cant angle was to wear it so that a belt look on my pants went through the two J-hooks. That limits you on where you can wear your holster since there is typically only one belt look on your pants in that area from 4-6. I don't know if it was the holster, how I had the retention set, or what, but I would get a "squeak" or a "groan" from the kydex in the holster, I'm assuming it was from the retention screw and the two halfs rubbing or something, but it was annoying. I don't want to hear my holster when I'm walking or moving around. Not tuckable. Maybe it was how I was wearing it, but occassionally, I would get pinched by the holster, but then again, I've lost a chuck of weight and maybe it was my fat getting in the way. What do I like: CBST: Sturdy, stable, consitent. Easy on and off since it doesn't use J-hooks. Not dependant upon a belt loop for stability. Has two points of attachment to the belt that are spaced out a bit. It's tuckable. I like it better than the SideArmor for a couple reasons: the stability and not having to work with the belt loops and the cant is adjustable, as is the ride depth. With the SideArmor, you have to buy a new attachment piece to change the cant angle. SideArmor: Adjustable retention. Nothing in the way of the grip. A sight channel. Washable by simply rinsing it out, nothing to worry about with the leather. The entire slide is covered, all the way to the muzzle. My recommendation: Get the Comp-Tac Minotaur Spartan (I think it's $1.50 cheaper than the SuperTuck) or the MTAC. Both have the ability to change kydex bodies to fit other guns, the clips to attach to the belt are nicer, they're cut to fit the grip better, and I think they're nicer holsters. The MTAC will run you more, but the back side is covered, so no exposed rivets, and both are completely adjustable.

Thank you for the reply. The M-tac has me wanting one now, it is a combination of both. I really wanted the kydex for one handed holstering and the enclosed bottom. I was unsure about the leather sweatgaurd being a pain, but the M-tac looks quite padded. The main that I like is the adjustable cant angle. I will be able to wear at numerous postions and adjust to my bodytype. I am going to order one up on Saterday. After a week or so I will post up a review to let others know from my experience. I would like to eventually have a few options of holsters for depending what clothing I am wearing. That will all come in time. This will be my first good Holster. Again thank you for advice.

I have a lot of experience with Sidearmor IWB holsters and none with Crossbreed, but I can tell you that the j-hooks for the Sidearmor holsters are worthless. In addition to the point already made, the j-hooks don't hold up and always break, and always in exactly the same place.
I still use a Sidearmor, but had a guy custom-make a one-piece J-hook for my Sidearmor. Works fine.

I ordered a SideArmor 4th Gen. IWB holster from them a few ago years off their Web page and waited and waited then had a tough time even getting hold of them just got their voice mail saying they were busy and would return my call.
Well they were off at the ShotShow taking more orders while their customers cooled their heals waiting for their orders. When I did get the SideArmor holster it was a really poor fitting holster I tried everything even applying heat and reshaping it but it just was a worthless holster. I just threw it away. Take my advice get a Comp-Tac holster they work. |
