Reliability!
I took my new XD .45 Tactical out for the second time today. I fired about 130 rounds. They were all reloads BUT they were loaded with high end factory made hollowpoints (XTP's and Gold Dots) loaded to aproximate factory velocitys. I am the guy who posted the thread the other day about downloading for reliability. When fully loaded with thirteen rounds the thirteenth is rather stiff to load and stiff for the pistol to feed. To test this I fully loaded all my magazines, jacked one into the chamber and replaced it in the magazine. I had wanted to practice speed reloading so I fired a quick double tap, reloaded, fired another double tap and reloaded again. Then I toped off all three magazines and repeated the drill again. Every shot fed off a fully compressed spring with 12 or 13 in the magazine. I could not make it jam or misfire in any way. Then I tried to limp wrist the pistol by holding it with two fingers and it still would not jam though it did fail to lock the slide back when empty once. But it never did this when held properly. Overall I am impressed! I have yet to shoot if off sandbags but when I bothered to actually look at the sights. it put the bullet right where I aimed. It is certianly "combat accutate" and is capable of an IDPA head shot at all reasonable ranges.

UPDATE
I had one instiance of the slide not locking back during a limp wrist drill. Even though I was holding the pistol with only two fingers, it still bothered me. So to test this again I just steped out back on to the deck to fire a few into the ground. I loaded only one in each magazine, fired, then reloaded from slide lock. I held the pistol normally this time and could not get it to malfunction after trying several times with each magazine. This pistol RUNS! |

Indeed
I noticed that loading the 13th round offered significant resistance, but I'd expect it to get a bit easier after sitting fully loaded for a few weeks. That seemed to have been the case with other magazines.
As for the concern of it being hard to load with 13 rounds, just keep one in the chamber and let the XD do the loading for you on that first dude
