Sights for XD .45....XS Big Dot or TFO ????
I just bought a XD .45, i want to use it for self-defense/IDPA. I would like to have a sight that i can see quickly and obviously catches my eye for fast target acquisition . Yet i would like to have a form of night sights. Like the XS Big Dot or the Tru Glo TFO. I like the big sight on the XS from what i see online. Yet i like the fiber optic look of the TFO but haven't used any in person . only ones i have seen or shot with have been trijicon. Any advice on which sight is better of the two would be much appreciated!

I have both......have the TFO's on my XD445 compacts and on a few Glocks. Have the XS big dots on my Glock 26. My preference on the bigger pistols is for the TFO's. Green front/yellow rear.

TFO's. From my understanding the BD's aren't that great for more precise shots.

I have XSs on my Hi Power and don't really like them-I shoot high with them. My IDPA buddy with 30k rds on his Glock just put the XSs on and hates 'em.
I would go in another direction, but it is a very subjective thing. So there's your subjective answer!

I have both and here is my take.
The TFO's are nice and use the traditional 3 dot sights. I also have Mepros, trijicon, basically all the same for target. The XS sights take a little getting used to. After shooting my 3 dot guns I start shooting my XD45C w/XS a little low for a couple of rounds before I get it right. Granted it's my newest gun and I need more range time. However I don't think they are the best for target practice but great for that quick acquisition of target in a combat/stressful situation. I understand that the "older shooter" or people that have some eyesight issues like these sights for SD. Not cheap either, $120. For me they'll stay on my XD as it is my basic SD gun. If these are your first sights I'd probably lean to the traditional 3 dot sights. That's my $.02. Last edited by XDragon; 06-17-2008 at 08:27 PM. Reason: add info |

I have heard nothing but good about the TFO sights, however, when I sent my .45 back to Springfield for a trigger job, I had them install the XS Big Dot night sights that you mentioned for the same reason, "fast sight acquisition." I could not be happier, I'm on target faster, more accurate, and they work very well in the dark also. I would however recommend that if you plan on 25+ yard plinking I would go with TFO or another 3 dot set up as the XS Golf Ball will cover your target making grouping difficult, not an issue for me as this is my CC weapon and quick sight acquisition is what I’m after. ...Good luck with your decision......

I really am starting to lean towards the TFO. How do the yellow rear sights work with the green front? They don't blend together do the?

Definitely TFOs. Best purchase for my handguns, literally.
