problems with 45 acp price (namely they suck)

Hi. first of all i'm new to this forum ( and handgun purchases) so thanks for having me. having shot my buddies xd40 subcompact on numerous occasions, i've decided that it's time to purchase, and i'm definitely getting an XD. i've been looking online for the last two months researching both it and it's prices, and have found some decent ones online, yet the shipping cost and transfer fee all but negate the savings i would get for going through all the extra hassle. basically what i'm asking is has anyone gone into their local favorite gun shop and seen any decent prices for the xd45 service with thumb safety? if so, could i have their number? the cheapest price i could find locally was around 560 including tax. the store owner was a hell of a person, but i'm not a rich man ( i cook rich people's food for a living), and i'd like to get the cheapest price possible. i had a store that i live about an hour from quote me 480 including tax, and that the would hold if for me if i brought him 100 bucks for deposit. i get there, and he tells me that he misquoted me and that the price was 680 with night sights and NOT including tax. all the other stores that are about 60-100 miles from me are hovering around the 560-600 new ( including tax) price range. from what i've seen online, it's pretty steep. if no one has seen any decent deals in their local gun store, i'd probably buy from the guy who quoted me 560 all inclusive. ( its a little off topic, but they don't make people like that guy anymore. i told him what i wanted, and he didn't try to sell me anything. he basically gave me the pros/cons of what i wanted to purchase, gave me alternatives that were in the price range of the gun i wanted, and even told me what the maximum i should pay for what i wanted should i not buy from him). smart selling tactic if you think about it. i really just want to shave as much off the final price as possible. i live in NC if that helps at all. thanks in advance for the help/flaming

I was in the same boat for the last several months. Probably will be again next time I want to buy a new gun. Always a good idea to do your research. I just bought my XD-45 last weekend for about $530 with night sights at my local dealer here in Portland, OR. That was apparently some expired promotion that was luckily still on the shelf, and the ones without night sights ran around $560. This guy is about the cheapest around these parts, so I trust that $560 is a pretty fair price. Have you checked Gallery of Guns? If you enter your zip code they'll locate dealers for you and ship the firearm to them. The prices vary, but they usually give you several quotes to choose from. Also theres the Gunbroker website. It's an auction site and you can usually find some good deals on new and used guns there, but you'll need to arrange for transfer to your FFL dealer, and they'll charge a fee (I've heard of some charging up to $100, but I don't think that's typical.) Anyway I would think anything much more than $550 would be too much for the .45, or low $600's with night sights. That said, when you finally get the gun in your hand and fire those first shots, you'll know your hard-earned money was well spent. No regrets here. I make cabinets for rich people, so I too feel the pinch. Good luck and I hope this helps!

I think you have answered your question.

I looked at several gun shows. checked the price for my XD on Springfields web site. I even got a dealer to lower the price of a .40 at a gun show after I told them they were over the manufacturers price.

all in all, decide the model, locate a decent price.

my XD .45 5" compact tactical was $520 +tax out the door (before trade in). I traded in my CZ50 for $150 credit. thus thats what I bought 500 rounds of reloads for the XD right afterwards

look for the honest dealer. the guy who is up front. it took me a month to find who and where. even the gun shops here range in price form $520 all the way up to $600+ for the same exact model.

go to Springfields site. they will give you the msrp price. print it and go from there.

Actually on their site the msrp listed for the XD is $0. I found most dealers' prices to be considerably higher...

Springfield has changed their site i see. I just hopped on to verify your info.

when I was looking for my XD, they had the prices on the site.. guess the dealers complained about the "competition"

Don't try to trade up ...

When the XD45 w/thumb safety came out, I decided to trade in my XD357 on one. The cost of the 45 was $560. They offered me $250 for my XD357. WHAT ???? I asked him, ( seeing I had bought it from him 1 1/2 months earlier new for $500 and only put 100 rnds thru it ). I declined the purchase and went to a local (small) guy with an FFL and he sold me the XD45 for cost - $500 plus 15 dollars to put in his pocket. Then he said " I think I can pull you $400 out of your 357, if you'll let me add $20 for myself". He put it on consignment and got me the 400. Yep, nothing like small business customer service....

Wow! I really got a deal then on my .45 with thumb safety. I paid $473 before tax at my local gunshop.

Back in Feb., I paid $480.00 including shipping from Bud's. had it shipped to a friendly local dealer & gave him 20 for his trouble.

Thumbs up Shoot the Ammo. of your carry gun.

I you carry a .45acp IMHO you should shoot .45acp guns at the range. Dropping down to a 9mm for cost savings is not a great idea.

About two years ago I bought 100 rounds of Win White box .45 Ammo. at my local Walmart for $19 today I pay $29 for the same 100 round box.

But I still feel it's a good thing to keep shooting my .45s.
