My kinda local guy (40 miles away) quoted me $599 + tax for the black 45 4" barrel. If I can't find a deal at the next show, I'll just keep the 1911.

That seems awfully high. I paid $500 (tax included) for my 45C just a couple weeks ago.

I bought my .45 4" in Dark Earth about a year ago for around $545 after taxes at a local dealer...but it just had the stock sights on it

Oh, did that $599 price above include night sights? If so, that's not that bad. Mine just has the standard sights.
