( its a little off topic, but they don't make people like that guy anymore. i told him what i wanted, and he didn't try to sell me anything. he basically gave me the pros/cons of what i wanted to purchase, gave me alternatives that were in the price range of the gun i wanted, and even told me what the maximum i should pay for what i wanted should i not buy from him). smart selling tactic if you think about it. i really just want to shave as much off the final price as possible. i live in NC if that helps at all. thanks in advance for the help/flaming
I went through budsgunshop.com and my FFL here in Utah. I purchased a XD-45 compact with OD grip with 10 + 1 and 13 + 1 mags. I did this mostly for impatience, as the local shops around here didn't have exactly what I was looking for. Here's the breakdown of price:

bud's retail = $499
bought with in-store credit (financing) = + $15 (for no cash)
insurance = $5 (optional)
FFL fee = $30
BC = $7

grand total = ~$556

I could have waited and used layaway, but the 6 months same as cash financing and price were a good deal imo. It took 13 days to get it, but there was Memorial Day in the middle of this too. I'm sure that delayed it a little. Ultimately I got the gun I wanted and i was OK with the price. I know the FFL fees will vary and the insurance is optional, so you could find it cheaper. bud's doesn't offer the thumb safety model of the XD (as far as I know), since I was initially going to get it, but my friend talked me into going compact over the service model (if the TS service had the OD grip, maybe I would have gotten it instead, but it doesn't...) Now that I've shot the compact 45, I'm glad I got it...it's a beautiful gun!

I'm looking at...

I'm looking at 5" .45ACP Compact with Night Sights and 3 Clips for $579 +$10 FFL. Is that a good price? I saw it at Bud's for $608.

Sounds about right to me. I'd get it. The third clip is worth $25 and the night sights around $100 aftermarket.

I see nothing wrong with shooting a variety of handguns at the range and likewise, I see nothing wrong with picking and choosing a carry gun for the clothes/situation as appropriate.

For me, that means it could be a .38 2" J-Frame or the XD45c or something in between, perhaps a XD9 4" or a Ruger Security Six. I prefer to be proficient in a variety of different handguns and not zone in on just one of them. YMMV

Price on 45xd in N. C.

I think Ed sells them for $499.00 Plus tax. If you have not visited Ed's in Vass N.C. you should. Good people and good prices. I think he is selling the 9mm and 40 cal for $469.OO. Give Ed a call @ 1-910-692-7936 and tell him Henry said hello. Give em a chance to earn your business. Good luck............I have 5 XD's and are pleased with them. You may consider the M&P S&W.

I too was wondering

If I got a good deal. Paid 499.00 ++ for a XD45ACP 4inch Service SAFETY about 3 weeks ago.

In the store though they had it for about 70.00 dollars more.

I called and talked to the owner before I went there and they honored the 499.00

This was not in Vass.

Ed's is awesome for prices, Got my XD9SC from there for $450 back in feb 08. all the .45acp models were 499 I believe.

Their website is edgunshop.com check out the forums, he usually posts up daily what he has new. Gonna buy one of those GSG-5's from him soon. Only $419 there, about $80 cheaper than everyone else.
