my girlfriend would have taken my other gun and shot me! (and I could immagine that my down stairs neighbors would have had something to say about it too.)

This is why I keep my gun IN my bed side table drawr, and the flashlight ON the bedside table

wow, major no no.. I'm pretty sure my wife would've revoked my gun privileges right then and there too. I keep a surefire on the nightstand and the 1911 in an Uncle Mike's holster I strapped to the bedrail.

I have a surefire in the drawer as well.
My pistol, whichever one I grab to take to the bedroom, says in a holster at all times.
It usually sits on the nightstand.

Yikes, my wife woulda s-d a brick!

Mine is tucked between matress and boxspring with grip sticking out, but it is not chambered also have a maglight sticking out right next to it. full mag is in but I still have to rack it.

Actually last night wife hears someone/thing 'walking' in the living room or on the roof... I get up grab maglight, and XD. stand at door listening and then as I'm stepping out I finally rack. and it was a squirrel that has come back to get into our attic... but the racking helps wake me up completely.

i wouldnt handle a loaded weapon drunk or groggy.

Mine would have revoked other privileges, too...for a long, long time.

At least no one got hurt and it's a good safety reminder for everyone.

If this ever happens to you, or anyone else reading this, I need you to immediately PM me. I will offer words of encouragement and reassurance and I will be happy to do whatever it takes to make peace in your time, i.e. "hold" whatever (legally owned) guns you need to depart with. Whatever I can do to help....

I'm sorry but thats just stupid, leaving your loaded gun just lying on the ground, racked and unholstered....dumb dumb dumb dumb....this reminds me of that urban legend of the guy who kept the phone and his revolver next to the bed. Middle of the night, phone rings, he reaches over, grabs the first thing he fees and BOOM headshot....

Yep...if your not shooting it, its in its holster, if its not holstered its in a case, if its not in either its locked up....
