First Failure to Feed

I've put about 2000 rounds of mostly American Eagle and UMC FMJ ammo through my 45 service compact without one single issue.

I recently purchased some Buffalo Bore 230 grain +P FMJFN and had my first issues. Upon racking the first round I had an FTFeed. I racked another round and with no problem but had two more before I finished one 13 round mag.

The bullets are nose up and seem to be catching on the feed ramp. The bullets that did not feed had a small mark in the surface of the copper jacket possibly from contact with the ramp?

Any similar issues out there? Any advice?

Thanks in advance.

Not really unusual for FTFs with FN, SWC, and some brands of JHPs. The XD isn't as finicky as most 1911s, but there are some bullet designs which just don't play well. This isn't universal, some XDs shoot bullet designs which others have a problem shooting reliably. Just find the bullets which work best for your gun, and stick with those, that's what I do. I shoot mostly Blazer Brass, WWB for range and Win Ranger or Gold Dots for PD. All work 100% in all 3 of my XD45s.

Like this?

I called Springfield when that happened. They said to send it in. They polished the feed ramp and it hasn't happened since.

Maybe I'll try to polish the feedramp

Thank you XD9Sub and Ishpek for you feedback. It's always appreciated. The pics from Ishpek are identical to my situation. Maybe I'll try to polish the feedramp. If it doesn't help then I'll just have to stay away from this particular ammo.

I had my first couple of ftf's. Had 3-4 out of a couple hundred rounds one day. It may have been a mag releated issue though. I noticed that one of my new mags(xd accessory pack) has the follower sticking up a bit farther than the other ones do. I need to check on it with my caliper. The round would kinda nose up and get jammed up and have the slide hit the side of the casing causing it to dent.

Check your mags to see if the back of the mag is still straight or puffed out. Check the mag's feed lips to make sure they are not bent. Compare the mags to a new one to be sure.

didn't check the back but I measured the feed lips of all of mine and they were all within .005" of eachother

Some people who have had feed failures report that the back of the mag bulged contributing to the failure. SA has replaced the mags in these cases and the FTF's/FTE's have disappeared.
