45 GAP Tactical LE
Am I the only one with a 45 GAP Tactical? I have carried, and used a 45 ACP 1911 for the past 55 years, and it has been my favorite. I also have had Glocks in about all models, as well as being partial to a good S&W wheel guns.
I have had a glock 37 chambered in 45 GAP for several years, I have been empressed. I am very pleased with my XD 40 Service, so I recently purchased a XD 5 inch tactical , the accuracy is outstanding. I perfer the XD over the Glocks, for a lot of reasons. The XD 45 GAP will put 5 rounds into 2 inches at 25 yards, with the right handload. I usually purchase one box of Gold Dots for carry, and shoot handloads for practice. I find that the 45 GAP is an inheritly accurate round, just like the ACP round. As you likly know, the 45 GAP version of the XD tactical is a single stack holding nine rounds, and the grip and finger reach is the same as the nine and forty. This one is a keeper.

45 GAP tactical
While I may not convince you to like the 45 GAP, I can simple tell you why I like the GAP.
1. 10 Rounds in a 45 in a single stack grip that fits my hand is conforting. 2. I like the flexibiliy of the GAP being able to be used in a 9mm/40 cal. frame. 3. Excellent factory ammo, and easy to reload accurate ammo. 4. I prefer the added safety of the stronger GAP case compared to the most prevalent "standard" 45 ACP case In fact, the GAP case has been pressure tested up to 35,000 psi. It's just about impossible to get a GAP case failure unless a reused case is heavily damaged. The GAP is great for reloading. 5. We all have sort our brass from other calibers. In addition to the regular sorting, there is only "one type' of .45 GAP brass to handle all pressure levels, "standard" and"+P" , which requires more detailed sorting if you are looking for consistency in your loads. 6. The GAP will be cheaper to produce in bulk: less case metal [1/7" less per case. Small pistol primers, and less powder to do the same thing as the ACP. 7. But mostly, the GAP is extremely accurate: it is a joy to shoot,it is simple to reload with pressures between 16,500 psi [soft loads] up to 23,000 psi and still be perfectly safe without pushing it beyond the SAAMI specs. And the GAP does it all with the same brass[no regular acp and +P brass to purchase or worry about. 8. I agree with you, that all folks that have invested and trust the 45 ACP, MY 45 ACP's INCLUDED, are well set up with the finest personal protection caliber available, and don't have to take the backseat to any caliber, especially the GAP, on the other hand, the GAP is a good round, have a good day, and enjoy the caliber of your choice.

Actually the only real problem I see with the GAP is it is used in a magazine the same width as the 9mm which means you end up with a magazine holding less than many mags for the 1911 in .45acp. This is the same problem you have with the .40 S&W which SA has solved with the new XDM.
Technically the GAP is a pretty good idea. You get the same ballistics, punch and accuracy for which the .45acp is famous but in a shorter cartridge which means a smaller grip which fits more peoples' hands. I love my two XD45 Compacts but would trade them in without a second thought if SA came out with an XD for the GAP which had the magazine capacity of the XD45 but with the smaller grip of the XD9/40. The grip on the XD45 feels very good in my hand and I shoot the things extremely well but the grip on my XD40 feels even better; I just don't like the recoil of the 40, at least not in a polymer frame gun. I suspect if some manufacturer would come out with a good hi-cap double stack gun chambered for the 45GAP you might see a number of PDs decide to upgrade to the BIG BULLET.
