New Toy

I just made my first handgun purchase on Saturday from the local sporting goods store. I am the proud new owner of a .45ACP tactical. I ordered TFO's from Gilberts, which should be here tomorrow. And I got in contact with Todd from customized creations. I'll be sending him my barrel and striker locking plate for polishing, and also ordering a SS fat guide rod from him. Now I am researching ways to color in the engravings, I'd like them in white. The whole crayola thing just seems a little messy and complicating...

I'll be trying the crayon trick hopefully tonight, if not tomorrow...I too have my doubts about it, but a 10 pack of crayons are cheap

If it doesn't work out I'll probably take some anxiety pills, get comfortable in my office and start rocking out with a toothpick and model paint.

that's true I spose, but it isn't the 10 pack of crayons I am worried about... What about like model paint, white out, or something similar? Would it have the same good looking effect? Seems a little less messy.

From my understanding the trick is getting either a good cloth that won't get into the engravings, or to use paper to wipe off the excess. The model paint should be fine to take off within a half hour or so with the right solvent. If you mess up with crayon...just melt it all off.

I've also seen it done with grease pencils, which should have a similar effect as crayons...fairly removable, but should last a bit longer.

Worst case, if you end up not being able to fully remove the model pain, you can just strip the entire slide of it's finish and have it refinished. Or you can just send it in to someone and have them pain the engravings in the first place.

That looks great! I'm also going to have the striker locking plate done. I will prolly mail it out tomorrow since wednesdays are paydays !

And when I get it back I'll be sure to take some updated pics and post them.

I decided not to do the striker locking plate. But I did send my barrel in to customized creationz last Saturday and also ordered the polished SS fat guide rod from them. I got an email yesterday saying hopefully it will be on its way back to me this weekend! I can't wait, I got the trigger kit put in and it feels quite a bit different. I can't wait to get out to the range with it to test it out. I've got 400 rounds in the safe and plan to go shooting as soon as my barrel gets here.
