If your considering night sights for your XD 45 C, I would suggest TFOs they are great in any light or no light. Just recently had purchased them from Gilbert's Guns for my XD 45C. I sent him my slide and in less than a week it was on the way home with new sights and not a scratch or any kind of mark on the slide a great install job. Full cost for sights, install and return shipping was $ 103.45 a great deal.He won't be able to run this special for long at that price.

I'm trying to train away from using the slide release on my autos anyway.

I got some advice recently that made perfect sense (at least to me it did):
I now train reloading using an "overhand" slingshot slide release. It reinforces the same muscle memory as clearing a stovepipe malfunction, so in the event of one I don't have to deviate (or think), as I firmly believe that under duress we default to our lowest level of training.

BTW-I really dig my 45C, andf I think owning a 4" 45C and a 5" Tac would be great, with the many different combo's you can run.........

I love my 45C. I've had it about three months and have bought just a couple of accessories. I had to sand a sharp lip off the Pearce grip extension, where it meets the bottom of the grip. After that they are a must have. I got the mag kit for $40 local, 2 compact mags and 1 13 round with extension and another mag holster.
I got a Blackhawk Serpa and I just can't like it. The paddle is comfortable, but either way it sticks out too far from my body. It says "concealment" on the package but I just don't see myself concealing my XD in this holster. It's a good design, it draws ok and I like the retention system, I just don't see a $45 advantage to it over the XD kit holster. I do need to get a good belt. If a good belt doesn't draw the gun MUCH closer to my body then I'm getting a Don Hume H721 OT.

The other two things I have gotten to go with my gun are 1) 1500 rounds (all bought and shot over about 2.5 months). I should probably be better by now but for the first 8-900 I was just shooting for fun. I can keep 10 within 6" at 7 yards. And 2) My KY CCDW class cert. and app. No license yet, I was told 5-6 weeks, we'll see.

If anyone is considering an XD and likes the way it feels in your hand then buy it. You won't be disappointed.

I'm just echoing everybody else, but SWC does seem to be a no-no with this pistol (it's the only stuff I don't shoot out of mine, and everything else feeds/fires like a champ!)

As to the slide racking/release, it is tough. About 300-500 rounds later, mine has loosened up quite a bit. The slide is still a bit of work to rack, but I rather like that the recoil spring is tough - I think it contributes to the reliability of this pistol. The release is very easy to use now, though.

It also influenced me to get back on my exercise (weight lifting) kick - and it has certainly helped.

My two initial discoveries after taking the .45 from the gun store counter to the range (about 30 feet away) were that:

1. It doesn't like remanufactured semi-wadcutter ammo. The first two shots fired but failed to feed with the brass stuck. I had to drop the magazine to let the brass fall out. Ok, so it probably wasn't a great idea to use that ammo, but my 1911 eats it up and that was what I had brought to shoot that day before my wife "talked me into" getting the XD (I guess she got tired of hearing me talk about it incessantly). I switched to Fiocchi 230 gr FMJ and fired the next 100 round with no problem.

2. The slide release is really tough. I assume it loosens up after awhile (?)

Anyway, it was all I hoped it would be and more. I'm waiting for my CCW to come in (45 day processing time in KS), but I think the compact will be a great CCW weapon. I spent the last hour or so laughing my tail off at Prelag's thread and the thread about "yotes". I'm looking forward to learning some more about the XD. This is a great site.

I'd just like to add a note. The TFOs are probably the best sight I've seen for competition/range work - but I'd stay away from them for harsh environments/combat conditions. I've read far too many reports of broken sights to trust them on a pistol that might be dropped/banged/hit/etc. Stick with traditional sights (or something like trijicons if you want night visibility.) They're not as easy to see/line up as the TFOs, but they'll survive a lot more punishment. Pick what's best for what you're going to be doing with your pistol.

I put a few more rounds downrange yesterday and noticed when I was cleaning it last night that the slide release is starting to ease up a bit. I practiced with the "overhand slingshot" slide release that Sobrbiker mentioned (or my version of it, anyway). I was at the range with someone who let me shoot their Kel-Tec P32 which doesn't have a slide release and it got me thinking that if you practice manually pulling back and releasing the slide, it might develop the muscle memory which might be transferable to a small weapon like the P32 or even a larger one like the 1911 where I have to use my supporting hand's thumb to release the slide. There's probably a lot of benefit to practicing one technique that would work for all three types.
