Is the .45 Compact available w/safety?
Is the .45 compact available with the thumb safety?
If so will an older non-safety Tact slide work with it? For those of you who've "Been There" is an additional safety a + or - in a concealed carry confrontation? nunnya |

If you are talking about the XD in the compact, no, it is not available with a thumb safety. To my knowledge, only the 4" service models and the 5" tactical models in black are the only two XD's available with the thumb safety at this time.
I do not believe you can use an older non thumb safety slide with a thumb safety frame. I don't think the additional thumb safety is a plus or minus with a concealed carry and you will get a lot of opinions on it. Basically it comes down to a personal preference whether you want a thumb safety or not. |

As far as i know the XD.45C does not have the thumb safety. It is however one a the 4" models, so it may come with them in the future. As fro your question about a Tact slide, are you talking about the Tactical model? if so, thats a 5" and i do not think they are interchangeable b/c of the length difference and other internal parts.

I e-mailed Springfield and they said there are currently no plans for the compact or sub-compact to get the thunb safety.

The thumb safety is NOT needed IMHO. After all, 10 bazillion Glocks can't be wrong.
But then again, the 1911 folks will probably argue it is a "must have." Semp

Seat belts are NOT needed in cars for them to be safely operated either...

You and you alone are your own best safety. The weapon is secondary.
