Exclamation XD.45 Tactical. HELP! Need a tactical leg holster for deployment

Urgent!! I am looking for a blackhawk SERPA tactical holster for my XD .45 tactical or somthing similar. There is a SERPA holster for an XD but it is for the 4" model. Deploying very very soon and need some input on Tactical leg holsters for the 5" model preferably with some sort of auto locking system similar to the SERPA. please respond ASAP!!

Well, you are gonna be SOL in the Serpa department since one is not made. It appears you don't need one for a tac-light so you finding one will be easier. The second best will be to get the Safariland ALS system, this will "auto-lock", you can easily find the number (I don't remember it off-hand, go to the Safariland website). Basically the drop legged 6360 version, BUT, the bad news is XD 5 inch holsters are not normally in stock and need to be special ordered and can take quite a few weeks. Get on the horn with Safariland and a few other dealers and start working your magic to get one soon. Then of course your 3rd choice would be your typical "generic" drop leg nylon "tactical" rig made by Eagle, etc.

Why does it look like the bottom of your Blade-tech is chewed to hell? I know they are suppossed to make nice holsters, but my first experience with Blade-tech really turned me off to them. I bought a double and a single mag pouch for my XD45. They were total pieces of garbage, on the double mag, one mag was so tight it would bind and get stuck and the other was so loose it would fall out no matter how I adjusted it, AND I waited almost 4 weeks to receive it. At the price tag of 50 bucks this was unacceptable to me. The customer service was very nice though and offered to replace them, but I opted for a refund AND had to eat the return shipping. I got a Safariland STX double mag pouch for 17 bucks which was tons better than the Blade-tech. I will always stick with Safariland over all others, I feel they are superior, BUT this is my OPINION. I'm NOT speaking bad of all of Blade-tech products, just I have been turned off by my initial impression, I know many LOVE their holsters.

  • yeah products can vary in quality..etc
  • i never invested in their mag pouches (50 bucks is pretty steep for me too)
  • as for the bottom of my holster i kinda just sawed it off because i needed a little extra room form my extended threaded barrel, and believe me that is made of some "no ****" plastic!!!(not the easy task i expected)
  • also i like the wrs retainment system, it's much more user friendly than sarfarilands (IMO)

My nephew bought the 4" Blackhawk Serpa holster for his 4" Service model XD. He is a large guy and didn't like the way it cut into his side while he was wearing it. We went out shooting last week and he asked me if I wanted it. I said sure! I have the 5" Tactical XD in 45ACP and it works with my pistol. The barrel sticks about 3/4 of an inch out of the bottom of the holster but it will work with the Tactical.

My SERPA is great for my XD Tac 45. Do you need to have the entire weapon covered? My tac model does extend beyond the holster by about an inch. I was sitting on a dirt mound the other day shooting the AR at 300 yard targets. I looked down and noticed my barrel dragging in the dirt mouned so maybe the SERPA isn't the best choice. My other holster is also a BlackHawk. I know both have variations so that you can wear them as a true leg holster.

BLACKHAWK ! *Tactical Level 2 SERPA Holster

BLACKHAWK ! * Holsters > Nylon=

Thanks, Yeah it seems that the Safariland is gonna have to be the way to go. However are you familiar with what they call "SLS" or self-locking system? Does anybody know anyone who has used these types of holsters in a tactical environment (i.e the desert)? Also if anybody has a hook up on getting the rig from Safariland in a shorter period of time I sure would appreciate it. Thanks for the input y'all.

The SLS has been around for a long time. I've been using it for at least 7 years. It is super fast and easy to use. Thousands and thousands of cops use it with no problems. The only thing you might need to maintain a bit will be the area where the SLS "pivots", just keep it free of lube, or use a dry lube in there so sand and grit won't gunk up the works.
