Weaken striker spring?

I know this has probably been covered somewhere.

Will my XD 45 striker spring take a 'set' (get weak over time) if I leave the gun cocked all the time? I'm kinda concerned about possibly causing light striker hits on the primer. Should the spring be changed out on a regular basis?

I carry the gun constantly and thought I better see what you folks think.
Thanks

So with your question do you mean that if you pull the trigger it would act as though the firing pin did not hit the primer on the round? The reason why I asked is mine has done that 6 or seven times with only 1000 rounds through it. The strike indicator was in and appeared that it has been fired but was not. I can move the slide forward and the strike indicator will be out but will not fire. The reason for me jumping on your post was that having the weapon cocked all the time may have two issues and not just the one you posted. I do have a 20# dons guide rod upgrade bought 2 months ago and the guide rod spring should be good. I hope that this may help you as well if we receive an answer

If you have a new XD that you haven't modified that won't fire, send it back.

If your carry gun is also your bedside gun, then you should replace your springs more often than most. All springs will eventually need replacing if kept under tension (and if not...just longer usually). With the rather low cost of springs, just order several when you order other items and replace them semi-annually, would be my suggestion.

You may also consider "rotate and rest" tactics. But the low cost of these springs (about $5) doesn't really make you want to test before replacing.

Thanks for the comments.

Where would be the best place to get the springs? Springfield or after market?

But first understand springs wear out from use not from sitting. I would exspect a spring to last years without use.

diverdown,

What you are describing is a failure to go into battery which is not necessarily a function of the recoil spring being bad. You should insure you have a clean barrel and magazines and check your ammo. One way to check is before cleaning remove the barrel and check you ammo by dropping the rounds in the chamber, the base of the cartridge should be flush with the end of the chamber. If it protrudes check the camber for fouling and check the diameter and overall length of the round. The 20# spring should be enough to bring the gun to full battery.
