Some XD Questions

I noticed on my 45 that the back rails are palamer and the front are metal. Is there a reason for that? I have taken the glock apart and even though the rails are thin they are still metal.

Let your gun therefore be the constant companion of your walks.

bobbyliv2fish,

The XD is set up to have all the stress bearing parts be steel, and as much of the rest of the gun as possible, be polymer (for easy of manufacture,- and of course cost)- probably 90% of the stress of firing (unlocking barrel, guiding the slide and ramping in a new round) is handled by steel- the polymer holds the trigger mechanism, the magazine, and your hand. The back of the frame does little but guide the slide.
The XD is superior to the Glock in so many ways- don't sweat what isn't important!!

Worry not my fellow XD affectionado

I have been shooting a G21 for 6 years in IPSC competitions, for the last 2 it has been the XD45 tactical, now though, after over 2,000 rounds that XD hasn't even had so much as a hiccup so don't worry, they knew what they were doing and it'll moutlast you & me both.
