Is this normal slide action?

On my XD45 service if the mag is out then the slide will stay open. That's normal. But if I insert a mag it won't close. I have to close it with no mag in the gun. To load it I have to pull the slide back while pushing down on the slide release button. 1. Gun with no mag, you pull the slide back and it locks open without you having to do anything?
a)Not normal.

2. If you put an EMPTY mag in the gun with the slide lock open and it won't close unless you take the mag out.
a)Have you tried pushing the slide release down with the mag in the gun?

3. With a loaded mag in the gun you have to pull the slide back and push the slide release down.

a) If you push the slide release down without pulling the slide back, WITH A LOADED MAG IN THE GUN, the gun will not close? NOT NORMAL

b) If pull the slide back then releasing the slide without pushing the slide release down, WITH A LOADED MAG IN THE GUN, the gun doesn't close.
