Just wondering if anyone has had any issues with their XD. I have heard allot of good things about the XD. What makes the XD better than the Glock?

where should i start...

hows about

polyer frame and safety trigger like a Glock
the grip safety and grip angle of a 1911
the takedown lever, barrel lock-up, and sights & dovetail of a Sig

not to mention the trigger and sight are steel, NOT plastic.

basically they took good ideas of a lot of quality firearms and rolled them into one.

There are a couple of issues talked about with the XD 45. Check out more posts in this section you posted in.

Most problems have been fail to feed issues with certain hollow points. Problem seems to have been eliminated in these guns with new mags or new AGP mag springs and/or a feed ramp polish job.

Some have had guide rod assembly failure but that seems to have been very rare.

I have owned two XD-45's: a 2007 5" Melonite Compact that I traded in for a 2008 4" stainless/black two tone Compact. I also own an XD-9 two tone SubCompact. No functional issues at all with any of them.

The XD-45 5" Compact seemed to have too much extractor rim tension when test fitting rounds to the bare slide, but had zero problems feeding, going into battery, or ejecting. The 5" also felt a bit top heavy and "clubby"; the 4" has better pointing dynamics and is just as accurate. The new 2008 XD-45 4" Compact had a cheapo, loose fitting stamped ejector that I replaced myself for $7, as it did not look trust worthy and wobbled (although it ejected fine too). More details here:XD-45 Ejector: Forging vs. Casting

Make sure you buy the caliber, size, and finish/color you want, because there is a bewildering array of options. Don't settle for what is in stock. Know what you want and get it. The XD-45 4" stainless/black Compact is the best caliber, size, finish, and capacity (10 or 13 rds)...in my opinion.

My indoor range has terrible lighting, with bright fluorescent lights over the shooter's shoulder and dim target lighting. The lighting is such that the angle on the rear face of the rear sight catches a lot of glare. A vertical rear sight face would be better for target shooting.

I am not a big fan of the pointy trigger guard corner as I never shoot with a finger in front of the guard. A thinner slide would be nice, especially in the smaller SubCompact calibers.

Mind you, these are very minor gripes. The XD has excellent ergonomics, grip, accuracy, reliability, fit, finish, safety, chamber and striker indicators, and overall appeal that greatly outweighs the minor faults.

XD's and GLOCK's are comparable in reliability. Shoot both and buy the one you like best, or better yet, buy both.
Many people here have XD's with several thousand rounds through them without any issues or failures, myself included.

I reread the original post. If the OP is torn between the XD and Glock, I have fired both.

Simply put, the Glock was built around their magazine. The Glock has a blocky grip feel and wrong grip angle. The new SF models are not appreciably better, just a little narrower front to back.

The XD was designed according to the human hand with a much more ergonomic grip and a proper grip angle. Go to a gun shop and hold one right after the other. I think you will agree. At the range, I shoot the XD much better than the Glock. The XD also has better safety, namely the loaded chamber indicator and striker indicator.

I wouldn't go so far as to say that the SA XD's are better then the Glock's. Both companies make a great handgun. When I was in the market for a handgun I knew I wanted something that shot a 45ACP round. I went to a local shop and fingered both the Glock 21 and the XD 45ACP. The Glock grip felt too blocky in my hands, and just was not comfy. The XD grip just felt right in my hands, and was a lot more comfy then the Glock. So, the XD ended up following me home. People with bigger hands say the 21's grip feels right to them and the XD's is too small. What it comes down to is what feels right to you. All I can say is go to your local shop, and fingers as many guns as you can in the cal. you want. Educate yourself about the diffrent companies you like. Then buy the handgun that fits you best. Dont settle for a gun just because it's envogue with your buddies. Buy what will work for you.

I do like the grip safety, and striker indicator on the XD's. Glock now has a chamber indicator like the XD's, but its on the side of the slide. I know the Glock 21SF also comes with ambi mag releases, but most of their models do not.
