Help With XD-45
I just bought the XD-45 Tactical. I have not shot it yet. I hear that it is a great gun. Before I bought the gun I asked if the XD came with a thumb safety and they said no. Now I am reading that they do. What can I do to get the thumb safety.

The thumb safety is on a new model available just this year. I have yet to see one at any of my area's shops. I would be very surprised if a retrofit kit is available.

I'm sure that they would have been able to get you one if thats what you wanted. Like already stated though, they are new for this year and I havent seen them in any stores yet.

it is available only on the SERVICE model... not the Tactical model and only in the color of black. I think it is the XD45LE model.

The thumb safety cannot be added to your gun. So if you want it, you would need to buy one with the thumb safety.

I'm not trying to cut you down here but I have the Tactical .45acp w/thumb safety and Service .45acp w/thumb safety both black. Ive noticed you cant always go by the SA site.

A few weeks ago I ordered and have now receive a 5' Tactical. Before ordering through a dealer I contacted S/A and was told that the thumb safety could be ordered on the Tactical (although it may add more waitng time to the order) and would probably be a standard feature on all models in the future. There are still plenty available w/o the thumb safety which is what I wanted. I would imagine that one w/o could be sent back to S/A and retrofitted with a thumb safety, but it would probably be cheaper to sell it then buy one with the TS.

I asked that very question by calling SA last week. The answer was no, an XD without thumb safety cannot be retrofitted to add the thumb safety.
