There have been pics on this forum of privately owned XDs with a thumb safety. They are definetly out there.

With that in mind,

Archer1945, would you mind posting a pic of your XDs?

My bad....I'm glad you asked, I didn't since I wasn't interested in a thumb safety,...a lot of good info can be had on sites like this however a lot of misinformation gets thrown around as well,..no matter how well intended. It's always best to go to the source.

I believe the US Military and NATO have finally figured out that the 9MM Beretta is a "POS"- and will be seeking a replacement in the near future. They can go 2 ways: a 40 S&W/.45acp polymer hi cap auto, or a 5.7x28MM FN which has the ability to penetrate body armor. Every major pistol maker is trying to catch the brass ring of a Military contract. NATO mandates a manual safety (as do liability lawyers). I hope like h*** the Military selects the XD in .40 S&W- a fine weapon made in the great state of Illinois!! That being said, I will always pack a XD-45

Well, I hope I dont stir up a pot of Shiznit here, but there isnt an XD on the planet that is made in Illinois. The entire XD line is made in Croatia and sold through Springfield to US markets.

LOL
Shooters Supply Why would I lie about something like this. Do you really believe your dealer knows everything. On the website look in featured items, scroll down and as of today there is a tactical w/thumb safety #534 and service w/thumb safety #533

They are already in some shops here in PA as well. Maybe the pony express takes longer to reach the midwest . . . .

Talley XD,

I know the receiver is made in Croatia- but please don't tell me the rest isn't made in Ill (I live about 80 mi from Geneseo).
I've eaten "****nitz" before (it's best with spicy brown mustard!!) . But this is too much!!
I still think the XD (in .40 or .45) would be an awsome replacement for the
bulky, underpowered, unreliable, and foreign made, current military sidearm!
As a newbie to XD I welcome the patience and knowledge of you hi posters. (got my first gun at age 5 - 50 year ago!!)

Not a chance. DoD just ordered a new boat load of the Beretta and will continue to do so. We even had the Afghanis buy 9mm (S&W).
