Timing is everything

My dear Wife was not really receptive to my buying a new gun. She likes her hobby of eating and sleeping indoors better. I held off for quite awhile and finally decided to go get it anyway $579 later I had my .45 XDC! Today I went into the gunshop for some 45acp to shoot it for the first time. Sitting in the display is th .40 XDC for $300 in like new condition. I could of learned to love the .40 at that price. Ah well the .45 was pretty sweet to shoot but fifty rounds goes quick. I need to score some cheap ammo so I can really break the gun in......... I really wish I had not seen that .40 it took just alittle bit of the joy out of getting this gun. Just a little.

Well, I would'nt lose any sleep over the .40 cal XD, I've never been a big fan of the .40 cal round. The recoil on just aout every one I've ever shot was snappy, to say the least, I really did'nt care for it. As far as ammo goes for the .45..I'd suggest doing what I do, Reload... .45acp is easy to reload and the cost of equiptment will pay for it self with the money saved on ammo. usually, you can load a box for at least 50% less than factory ammo, depending on the componets used.

Get the .40 and keep the .45 but tell her you're gonna take one of them back as soon as you decide which one. Of course, that will take years to decide. Both guns have their own character. You'll enjoy them both. The .40 isn't snappy if you grip it properly.

I'm with ralphh I just don't like the snappy recoil of the 40S&W as a gun I would shoot a lot. The only 40S&W I still have is a Glock G35 that I have set up as a competition gun and reload to reduce some of the annoyance in the 40S&W recoil. The 45ACP has never bothered me shooting all day. I assume the used 40 you say was a Sub Compact because they don't make a XD40 Compact. To me the XD45 Compact is the best all around gun available for both carry and range.

My bad it was a service. And between you guys and my brother (who told me to suck it up) I think I made the right decision. Reloading seems to be the way to go. I will start doing my research since the only thing I have eever reloed in the past were 12 gauge shells. Long long time ago!

i never have understood what people say the "snappy" feeling is. i can aquire my target much faster after each shot with the .40...partial because it kicks less than the .45. (even though it has more energy and velocity at the muzzle and any distance really) plus it drops about HALF as much as the .45 does at 25 yards and over.

how do you not love the .40!

If you are looking for cheap plinkin ammo while you get things around to start reloading. Blazer Brass 45ACP at Wal-Mart can be had for between $13.00 and $15.00 for a box of 50.
