Oregon -

$40 for a CCW class, one evening.

$65 processing and application fee at the Sherrif's office, where they fingerprint you. They will run your background.

I got mine in about 30 days.

I have to renew every 4 years for $35 or so.

Kansas blows...hope you didn't steal a piece of candy when you were 4 cause that is a disqualifying factor...like damn near everything else.

In South Carolina you take a one-day course from a certified instructor, get fingerprinted, photocopy your driver's license, send photcopy, paperwork, and $50 (? - it's been a few years) check to the State Law Enforcement Division, and wait 90 days for background check to be made.

When you receive your SC permit, which is valid for 4 years, photocopy it and send copy and form to New Hampshire State Police (with fee) for a non-resident NH permit. They're quicker!

With SC resident and NH non-resident, one can carry in almost 30 states.

In NY you have to pay $10 and fill out an application just to get the handgun permit application. References, pictures, $ later and then you set up fingerprinting. Then they get six months to issue your permit or refusal.

I got mine in 2.5 months from fingerprinting. I live in a conservative county and had already had a background check for getting on the teacher's registry.

No class though.

WOW!! Awesome information. I moved to SC a couple of weeks ago and am getting ready to apply and take the course. Now I know I'll have to do the NH non-res application as well.

Thank you!

What Se2002 said. It is nice being able to send in the form, the money and getting not a permit but a nice well printed and professional permit. Add to that they typcially send you a renewal notice and it cannot be beat.

Pardon the ignorance, but what does getting the NH non-resident permit buy you over only having a CCW permit in your state?

OK, now I get it. I was just up in Ottawa, KS with my kids at a music camp and all the buildings on campus (Ottawa Univ.) had the 8" pistol-inside-red-circle-with-bar-through-it sign on the doors. I didn't remember that from when we went a couple of years ago and had the thought that KS must have passed CCW legislation.

Here in MO it's $100 for an 8 hour course (Which includes range time. You supply your own ammo and have to qual on both a revolver and semi-auto. The instructors at my course had both in case a student didn't have both types.), $100 for background check & fingerprinting at the SO in your county of residence, then about $20 at the license bureau to get the CCW endorsement on your DL. So about $220 total.

Of course your DL is valid for 6 years and CCW is for 3 so, unless you plan it carefully or just get lucky, you'll be making a lot of trips to the DL office over the years.
