When he hands it to you, he looks into your eye and says "Boy, don't you go causin' no trouble" (I'm surely just kidding).

Renewal is now 5 years. You send money and passport photos, new license comes to your door.

I read you can pay twice the five year amount and get a ten year permit. Also it's mailed so you don't need to visit the Sheriff again.

Terry,

Your right, You gotta love Alaska. We need meet and go shooting at the range one of these days. Do you go to the range at the end of Cushman very often, I usually go during lunch about 3 times a week and get rid of about 100 rounds.

Idaho= shall issue. Go to the local Sheriffs office, fill out form, do prints, $54, and they call you to the DMV, where you have your picture taken and your permit issued. About 2 weeks.

Kansas - 8 hour CCW course (around $100), fingerprint, and send it to the DA's office with another $125. It takes a minimum of 45 days to process. The license is for 5 years. It's kind of pricey and the wait is too long, but we have to be thankful, the KS legislative branch passed the CCW bill over our governors veto just last year.

Haven't seen TN yet, so: Take an 8 hr class (price up to the instructor), go to a Driver's License Station and fill out paperwork, get picture taken, and pay $115. Go to a local CogentID fingerprint station (oddly most are in UPS Stores), fingerprints are sent to TBI for background check, and permit is mailed to you up to 90 days later. For renewal, just fill out the renewal form and mail it and a $50 check into TN DoS.

OR is "shall issue." Take a three hour handgun safety class ($20, no range time,) turn in application, bring safety certificate to sheriff's office, $65 fee, fingerprint, background check, wait for mail. It's a 4 year permit, with renewals being a $55 fee (no class or hassle.) I'm still waiting for my appointment with the sheriff on June 17.

Just applied for first-time Fl CCW permit Non-resident. Criteria: No felonies, over 21, send a photo, proof of training (dd214 in my case - their informational packet lists all applicable ccw statutes and what qualifies as training), application form, $75.00, and a fingerprint card. Fingerprints can be done electronically in most sheriff's offices (did mine in Manatee Co.), paid $5.00 fee to sheriff and on FL CWCS website paid another $39.00 for the privelege of being fingerprinted. Total of $119.00. If you send a card completed elsewhere non-electronically, it's $42.00. Sent it out Thurs., don't know how long it will take, but they ask for 90 days to process.

I urge you to go here and get your application packet:

Form/Pamphlet Request - Division of Licensing, DOACS

Peace,

Dang . . . that's steep but I'm more than willing to pay it considering my home state's stance on firearms.

<-- Illinoisan who's finally moving out from behind enemy lines to friendlier territory.
