Different sights on my XD45?
I'm a newbie and in the last week have learned a lot from all of you knowledgable shooters. I've seen many posts about replacing your factory sights with something else. I have always shot my handguns straight from the box. Am I missing out on something? Is there really a big difference or is this just a matter of personal preference? What kind of sights would you suggest and where would you recommended to order from? Would putting different sights on my XD45 affect the accuracy that it now has? I want to do this! vukdog7

There are many sights out there available for the XD, so the sky's the limit. All personal preference and how you like your sight picture. The stock ones are a b*tch to adjust/remove so plan on sending the slide out if you need to do anything with the sights. Personally, I ordered a set of Heine Slant Pro sights for my XD as I use it soley for competition and just wanted black sights (and wanted rid of the sharply angled rear for clearing drills). In the meantime, I painted over the white dots on the stockers. I have no need for night sights on it, but a fiber optic front might be in the works...

My eyes aren't what they used to be. I'm 62. I installed Truglo fibre optic. I'm pleased with how much quicker I can pick up my next target when I'm shooting Steel Challenge competition.....in daylight conditions.
IMHO, you choose your sights based on what you plan to use the gun for. I also use mine for home defense. I don't care about night sights because I don't think I need to "sight in" on bad guy 12 feet away. Point shooting practice has made me confident I can hit center of mass. Just my point of view.

I just had TFOs installed on my XD 45C by Gilbert's Guns but haven't been to the range to try them yet, I also have them on my XD 40 SC for about a year now and they are great. I am expecting nothing different from the 45C

Another vote for the TruGlo TFO's. Always easy to see, no matter what light your in.

Regarding XDs, it seems that many folks want to replace the sights and the trigger - or at least improve the latter. I am one of those folks who doesn't like the stock sights nor the stock trigger though that improves with use. Here is a link to a thread on the two sights I narrowed down to: Which night sights: Heinie or XS Big Dot? A lot of folks really like the TFO sights. And they are very good, but maybe not tough enough for duty use. I wanted night sights that are tough and visible. Try this: Welcome to Springer Precision and then click on the picture of the parts - took me forever to figure that out - and then you can see pictures of sights, etc. I'm going with the Heinie Straight Eight Slant Pro 2 dot night sights. Hope this helps, Chapie+ |

I have TFOs on two of my pistols. Functionally they are great! Do not use any solvents (ie. Original Gub Scrubber) to clean your slide. To easy to get it on the fibers and it will cause big damage. My office is only a couple of miles from TFO in Dallas, they put on a new rear sight at no charge.
The new synthetic safe Gun Scrubber works great with no fear of damage.
