Go 3" or 4"
I can not imagine carrying a 5" barrel. I carry concealed quite a bit. I seriously recommend going as small and light as possible. For me one of the really big concerns is absolute concealability. So I rarely carry in a standard hip holster. IWB ( Inside the Waist Band) carrys are to bulky with a 5" barrel for me. Also, I carry ankle holster sometimes and that is just impossible with a 5" barrel.
There is my two cents. L |

Carrying the 4" is No Biggie for Me
I mainly use a CrossBreed SuperTuck and it hasn't been a problem. All things being equal, I don't think the 5" would be a problem either. I don't wear "tight" fitting pants, so the muzzle of any handgun has never printed on me (at least that I've noticed). To me, the biggest issue is the grip. The grip issue has been, well, a non issue since I switch over to the CB ST holster...this thing rocks. I think I might be able to sport a full size grip in this thing.
I've just ordered one for my, dare I say it...Glock 23. |

Well I am not a big person and I own the 4 inch service. I cannot carry it on my side concealed unless I have a jacket. With that being said I can carry it at the 4 or 5 clock position and hide it pretty good. Probably should get me a compact

I am a big guy, 6'7" and 300# and comfortably carry my XD45 Service (4") in a Brommeland Max Con V. Here are a few pics, please excuse the stained t-shirt. I had just come in from the field where I was working on my tractor.

DaveIT, it sounds like you made your pick, but I have to chip in anyway.
I'm now carrying an XDM (fullsize pistol, mind you) with a 4.5" barrel, and it disappears in my IWB. I'm 150 lb on a 30" waist. |

A Lot of Guys Only Carry Full Sized Guns
I know several firearms "experts" that only carry full sized guns, with rare exception. Maybe to a wedding, or when golfing, etc. But for daily carry, a full size gun is doable. It really does come down to compromise. How do you want to dress vs. how you need to dress to keep concealed. I think the 5" Tactical Compact would be quite doable. The extra 1" on the grip for the full size service model would be a stumbling block, but not a prohibitive thing.
