I grew up in Maine. Was lucky enough to live on a large farm. Had a gravel pit with a 500 yard open flat range. With 75 to 100 foot high solid gravel back stop. Behind that was miles of woods.

unfornuately everyone eventually clowns around a little at the range...even LEO's, but notice the presence of an RSO even when they're "winding down"...

I wonder if they were using blanks in that firearm. There was obviously a body down range holding that camera.

I've only had 2 unwanted incidents happen while at a range.
The first one happened when I was with a co-worker taking her shooting for her first time. We were at a privately owned outdoor range that was open to the public. While at the shooting line, she had to put up with 3 guys making sexist remarks for the first few minutes we were there. Just as I was about the tell them to knock it off, she proceeded to verbally rip them a new one. The second incident was much scarier. I was at a machine gun shoot being held at my shooting club. It was over, the line was cold and everyone was packing up their stuff. All of a sudden a shot was fired. An old guy that owned a MG42 had a ND and fired off a round into the roof. I found out later that the bullet had only missed my best friend's head by about a foot. After receiving a stern talking to about safety by more than one person, the old guy pack up his stuff and I haven't seen him back at the range since. |

After reading all these posts about the "wonderful experiences" at shooting ranges I am glad I decided to build my own range on my property. It sure is nice to be able to shoot any time you want.

When I lived in Chicago I used to go to this range in the outskirts of the city. Technically it was a suburb. The range was all plastered with holes and it seemed like every time I went to shoot their fees were higher.
Luckily I now live in Arizona so I shoot for free and never have to worry about other's people's unsafe practices.

Yep,
Between the home boyz that can't seem to keep their Hi-Points on their own damned target, and the good ol' boys that think it's a-okay to handle their deer rifle on target breaks cuz it's "unloaded and the safety's on" I don't frequent our public range anymore. The rangemasters are, at best unobservant. There are a few nice spots out in the desert I bring myself to where very few other people shoot. I set up shop and spend a day amongst nature, and don't have to deal with too many retards. Shooting is too enjoyable and activity for me to be ruined by having to deal with people I don't like while doing it. - Ryan
