the only time ive had anything happen at the range was about six or seven years ago, had a newbie rent a .44 and start up in the lane next to me. he wasn't doing to bad either, going nice and slow. but i noticed a CLICK CLICK CLICK every time he stopped shooting. he just kept pulling the trigger after he emptied the cylinder and lowered the gun. before i decided to ask him what he was doing he was shooting again, so i would wait for him to finish. RO called a cease fire to help somebody with something but he didn't have time to empty the cylinder so here he goes again... CLICK BOOOM nice big hole in the floor about a foot from my right toe. time to leave.
thankfully i don't live in the city anymore, out here in rural maine i just go out in my backyard to shoot, or if im sighting in a rifle ill go find an old logging road or something.

Maine
I grew up in southern Maine, right outside Portland. I remember having to drive for quite a while to find a safe area to shoot. I assume you're up past Bangor? I live in Montana now and don't have that problem anymore

Retards with leg holsters.......
Let me help tip the scales from the "homie" factor over to the "tacticool" factor.
I do not like to go to our public shooting range on the weekeds, that seems to be when all the idiots crawl out of the wood work. Our public range is setup with side by side range tables and target stands. Its very nice. I am set up about 5 lanes down from the group of 21-25 year old guys. They have rather tricked out AR-15s and other types of handguns. Not to mention the vests with extra mag carriers etc. They start doing drills by drawing leg holsters and "working" different angles on the target and rapid firing. At this point, they are no longer keeping their lead in their shooting lanes. They are spraying lead through my target and several other targets. Which rather pissed me off since I was attempting to sight my scope in, and its kind of hard to do that with these dopes shooting. Its just very inconsiderate on their part. They were asked to tone it down several times...... I walked down and asked them to keep their shots in their own lanes. I was bluntly ignored. Hmmm. Guess since I did not have $1200 worth of tactical crap hanging off of myself I was not worth talking to.... On the other hand........ We do have our homies that like to go out the range with a pile of ammo. These guys for the most part show up, blow through several hundred rounds of ammo and then leave. They rarely last more than 30 minutes. Shooting style is more spray and prey and cant hit crap...... Its nice to shoot next to them. I just sit back, let them have their fun and then very nicely ask if I can collect their brass if they dont want it. Yes, I have also asked if I could offer some tips on better shooting techniques. Most of the time they just say that they. Take your pick, "tacticool" gun snobs that think gear can compensate for poor skills, or "homies" that spray and prey. Both them have a lot of room for improvement. |

Spray & pray is what happens on our streets. Last summer a "Homie" was driving down our street & saw someone at the corner he obviously didn't like. He stuck a "9" out the car window & emptied the mag. I was in the driveway, & saw tree branches 20 ft in the air being clipped by bullets. At least he was shooting trees instead of our neighbors! A couple blocks away, someone had their house shot up in some dispute or other. The shooter stood in the street with a 12ga, pumped 6 rounds of buckshot into the house and never hit a window! Life in the 'hood - it's never boring!!

The only spray and pray i do is on a paintball field but that is a completely different topic....I can't stand the morons that think the tv/movie gun mentality is the right one to have..

Hey BOS302, what range do you shoot at, if you go to Honey Island, the range masters do a great job of keeping the idiots out from what I've seen. However, shooters club will rent lanes to anyone, but the range master is never in there. They always ask people if they have shot before, but if they're not a regular, how would they know. I never go into the range if there's a crowd.
