.45 compact and 10 round mag +1 problems
Anyone else have trouble loading a full 10 round mag when 1 round is in the chamber? It's so tight I really have to slam the mag in and it's damn near impossible to use the release without finnagling the mag.
Take one round out and it's fine...so it's obviously an over compressed mag spring (i.e. not enough room in the bottom for spring, and rounds). Does a pearce grip extension help? Has SA addressed the issue? If anyone says just carry 9 rounds, I will hunt you down and make sure you never procreate |

You are saying that if you don't have one in the chamber, you can easily seat a 10 round magazine but if you have one in the chamber, it is very difficult?

I don't have this problem in either one of my XDs.
The Pearce finger ext isn't going to have any influence on the compression of the mag spring. It only replaces your stock base plate/pad of the mag. Is the gun brand new?

I had the same problem when I first purchased by XD .45 Compact. It is a matter of a tight magazine spring--which is actually a good thing (helps to ensure reliable feeding). It will loosen up with use and time. It is not a flaw; just keep on working with it and it will improve.

Ok...I just don't want to break anything. It is EXTREMELY tight in my opinion. The mag looks fine. I just don't think the baseplate leaves enough room for the spring. |

mag problems
hey dude, This might sound "unsafe" but I guess it depends on the circumstances. What I did was laod all my 10 rd mags when not in use and just leave the like that. The springs in the mags were VERY stiff when I first got them. So fully load the mags and keep them loaded when not shooting. The springs will soften a bit and will not affect chambering when the loosen up. Mind you if you have kids in the house or anyone you don't trust, put them in a secure place ( not stored within the case ) as you would with keeping ammo and guns seperate. I know some guys on here will say never compress springs because it will lead to problems, thats true when it comes leaving slides locked to the rear, bolts locked to the rear, weapons cocked, or not depressing the trigger when your store weapons. HOWEVER, I am an armorer in the military and it is noit a problem to leave mags loaded, trust me, and you should have mags loaded, you'll be happy when you need on and it is full, hope it helps
