ccw vest

Here in South central Alaska 70 degrees is a rare event. I normally wear a vest. I love all the pockets and it keeps me warm. I recently ordered this Concealed Carry Clothiers - Providing quality Vests for Travel and Concealed Carry, Accessories, Concealment Clothes, Gun Belts, Vest . I think this will cover my carry needs as long as I live in Alaska. Once mother Coast Guard sends me back down to the lower 48 we'll have to rethink my options. Does anyone have any experiance with this carry method? I will carry my XD45C as soon as I become reasonably proficent with it.

Shoot Me First!!

LOL! No seriously... I like to wear vests to help conceal my guns. An XD45 Compact is really too big to pocket in a vest. It is very heavy and thick. I prefer to wear my XD-45C OWB covered by the vest. I often put my P3AT in my inside left vest pocket where I can access it crossdraw. P3AT is only 11 oz.

I prefer black as it is a little harder to see it as a vest especially if you have a black t-shirt and jeans. So it is a tiny bit less... Shoot Me First!!

I use Sig Tac vests because I like all the pockets.

Welcome to XDTalk!

BTW... a good way to reduce the SMF characteristic of a vest is to sew patches on it like bikers do. Then the vest is seen as a canvas for your patches and not a place for your guns to hide.

I have a black leather vest with inside pockets on both sides just for weapons. I can put my XD45 in and it doesnt sag down either. It carries well and is really comfy.

Leather vests are a lot stronger than fabric vests. You can tote an XD in a leather vest. But usually the inside pockets aren't big enough to allow easy access and egress of the gun. I have several and have found them good for my Keltec and even my SP-101 but the XD is a tougher customer to fit in the pockets.

The vest I ordered will be coming with an insert for my Kel-Tec P3AT and one for a "Medium Auto". If it is going to be difficult to carry the XDC ill get a rig to wear under the vest. That way it will not be a total loss. It has a buncha pockets even if I can't tuck the compact in there.

That sounds workable. You can carry your mags in the vest pockets as well as some hot gas and some other items.

When I see folks wearing vests like that, or a photographers type vest, I like to walk up with a big smile on my face and ask them what they're packing. Seems half the time, I've been right.

Fanny packs are often a give away especially for men.

I have a vest I picked up at Cabela's to carry my camera gear in, when I don't feel like toting a big camera bag, that has nice inside pockets on both sides that my XD45C 5" fits in just beautifully. Even nicer is that on the outside is a pocket right in front of the inside pocket that allows me to carry either a lense or flash which covers any tale-tale sign of the gun. Actually the pocket is so heavy it covers the gun behind it pretty well with nothing in it.

As for a fanny pack being a dead give-away for men carrying a gun all I can say is people who say that have never been around a zoo or other tourist attraction very much. People were carrying their wallets, etc. in fanny packs long before most states allowed ccw. CCW holders/LEOs adapted fanny packs to their use from hikers, bikers, runners, tourists, not the other way around. In fact the fanny pack is a good example that most people don't pay the slightest bit of attention to what people around them are wearing/not wearing; other than at the beach.
