The FNP-45 USG has the benefit of Cocked and Locked (SAO condition 1)carry and a thumb safety; whereas the XD does not.

They're not on the shelves yet, but I'm not in a hurry. Before anyone asks "Why do you want a thumb safety?", I'll state right now, that's one of my personal requirements. They're on my 1911s and Hi-Powers, and I like them. Don't try to confuse me with definitions of "safe-action" or anything else.

Why choose a striker-fired weapon over a traditional single-action with a hammer?
Had a chance to shoot about 100 rounds through one today, really liked it, felt good and shot excellent. But I won't get rid of my XD's to own one, nope . . . . I love my two XD tacticals one .45acp one 9mm.

I know this is late, but you should make a list of reasons not to own an XD-45. It will be much shorter . It's my favorite 45...it just grows on you.

If I had to make a made a list I'd stay with my 1911s. I just wish I had the option of a light rail and a higher capacity. This XD will just be another tool that is available. I know I won't strap it on ever day.

Right now I rotate between a 5" and a 3" 1911 over the issued H&K USP40. I do know that the shorter grip frame will be a benefit when sitting in small aircraft seats on extraditions... I may yet become a bigger fan.

I wanted to shoot thier FNP-45, but it was only for sale and not for rent. I've fired the .40 before. I like the FNP because a newer variant is single action. But iif its the same size, its only really viable for uniformed patrol work. Its so huge I think concealed, or in my case plain clothes, is a real problem. I'd want to hire someone to carry it for me. It seems to be a great gun though.

Buy a new car and have to send it to a garage to me upgraded? No. They should come from the factory in a proper condition.
The point is to make a good thing better. Most people who buy a mustang will put some aftermarket parts, (IE. exaust, supercharge, ect.) to get the most out of their purchase. But at the end of the day, there isn't anything wrong with how it somes from the factory. Same with the XD. It's just preferance.

I don't mind the longer trigger, and will probably keep it on my 40SC when I get it, and get a trigger job on the Service, since I use it for Competition.

It took me about 8 seconds. I sent mine off to springer precision, they are actually really fast, mine took almost 1 full week.

If you like to work on them yourself, you can. There are instructions on how to modify the trigger on the internet, you can also buy a parts kit for the trigger for cheaper than having it done.

I bought mine because it's the right size for a compact for me (with 10 rounds of .45 ACP).

Incorrect. Someone said their FNP-40's Hammer Module had cracked. But that is a very old problem that has been corrected by FN, and is no longer an issue. The 9mm's are not affected. Over 500 rounds fired from my FNP-9, and I love it.

As for the XD vs FNP-45, wow, good question. I have not even personally seen an FNP-45 (Kommiefornia+Bay Area=SOL), but I have heard either really good, or disappointed reviews of them. People either really like it, or are not impressed with it. They come with a humungous over-sized plastic case. I mean, it is rediculously huge. The gun itself seems very promising nonetheless.

I was at first afraid of getting a decock only gun after owning my Ruger KP345 with Safety+decock. But after getting my decock only FNP-9, I enjoy it and am used to it with little effort.

Why get an XD over an FNP-45? The XD is proven super reliable and has already been pretty much perfected. FNP-45, the jury is still out.

Well, I put an XD45Compact on order yesterday. You guys had better not be misleading me about anything. I'd been wavering and indecisive about this long enough.

With night-sights it'll cost be five-thirty-something from my FFL guy (his cost).

Now I'm second guessing my choice of guns. If I stay exclusively with 1911s (as I am now) I haven't really lost anything.

I haven't sold gun in years, and I won't.
Let me get this straight...you've been a 1911 user for 20+ years, and in all that time you never...ever...not even once...sent a 1911 to a 'smith for an upgrade or performed an upgrade on it yourself???

And if you answered "Yes"...do you fully realize the minority group of 1911 owners that you are in. I know there are many 1911 owners that do nothing to their guns. But let's face it, the 1911 is the single most "tweaked" gun in existence.

If you have done any work to any of your 1911's, you would most likely have no problem putting a Springer Trigger Kit into your XD yourself. The work is easy for someone that is gun-savvy and mechanically minded.

If you leave it bone stock, it will take awhile for 20+ years of "muscle memory" to change.

BTW...totally too late for this now...but any XD can be ordered thru the Springfield Custom Shop with a trigger job done to it.

Correct. All mine are out of the box-stock, short of XS night sights on one Colt. A modified weapon is more difficult to defend to a jury, and harder to justify to the Office armorer.

The Kimber Tactical Custom II is my daily working gun. Doesn't need any improvements.
