Sig 220 vs XD 45 ACP

Went to the range today and rented a XD 45 to try, below are targets from my Sig 220 and the other the XD (13 rounds). First, I really enjoyed shooting the XD, maybe even better then my Sig??? However, I noticed something on the targets; both were shot with WWB and at 33', but the XD produced bigger holes. It may be hard to see, but there seemed to be more deformation of the paper (bullet holes) on with the XD. Any ideas as to why that would be?

Some of those holes look to be tears in the paper. it could be your hitting almost over another hole in whatever is used for a backer that will have that effect. At any rate I would suggest its something to do with the target not the ammo or the gun. those targets look to be made out of paper not poster board. Poster board targets don't do that.

The round could be keyholing (bullet tumble), which can be caused by an uneven crown on the end of the barrel.

Both targets were over the same materials and there were tears on both, almost equal, but the XD made "dimples" in the paper target whereas the Sig did not.

Apples and Oranges, love them both

I have a P-245 and XD-45. Love them both. Both melt in my hand, I prefer to carry the XD with 13+1. What a sweet weapon. The Sig stays on guard at home. Gives me a real safe feeling.

Had both and shoot both well. However the P220 grip was just wide enough not to feel completely comfortable so I traded it in on another XD45 Compact, a 4" to go with the 5" I already had. I'm still trying to figure out how a gun with a single stack magazine can have a grip that is wider than one with a double stack mag.

Had the same problem with my P226 so traded it in on an XD40 Tactical. That being said I have never picked up a Sig I couldn't shoot well.

I couldn't really see any noticeable differences in the two targets. A couple of holes look as though you might have shot two bullets thru almost the same spot but even that is very hard to see.

As for "keyholing" that generally will only show up at longer distances and is not at all common with handguns. Much more common with rifles when the size of the bullet and the twist rate do not match, can also be caused by a damaged bullet. If the muzzle crown was damaged enough to cause problem it would show up on every shot and not just a few.

I bought my first XD from my old partner who preferred his Sig 220 to his XD. He was kind enough to part with it at a good price. My first duty gun was a SW 686 6" and my second was a Sig 226. Both shot very well. I did a really stupid thing (actually many, many stupid things, but I digress) and listened to a Capt and traded my beloved Sig for a glock. I know there are folks who love glocks. The glock and I didn't get along. Now I have changed from carrying an XD Service .45 to an XD Compact Tactical .45.

I know none of this answers your question - at all (sorry). I have great respect for the Sig line, but I am happy to carry my XD. I would trade it in a moment for this sig: https://www.sigsauer.com/Products/Sh...&productid=160

But it wouldn't be for carry. I would still buy another XD and carry it.
