I couldn't wait for the weekend so I headed over to the range after work with my trusty XD45c and two practice mags loaded with AGP extra power springs. One 13 rounder, the other a 10-round compact. Wow! I fired 200 of my reloads - half 230 grainers, half 180 grainers (both medium charges of Pistol Power and Clays). The rounds fed with distinct "authority" vs with. the weaker factory springs. 'Not one single failure of any kind.

Now here's the interesting thing and this may lead to an important discussion: It is customary with my reloads to experience a few light strikes, maybe 3 or 4 out of a 100. I attribute this to insufficient primer seating, no big deal at the range, I just pull the trigger again and they go boom. But with the extra power springs, out of 200 reloads I fired tonight (twice as many as I usually shoot and same primers), not one single light strike. Could there be a connection? Heck if I know. Now granted, I did give all my rounds a very quick "primer touch test" prior to enure that all primers were seated uniformaly but still....I am wondering....could it be the heavier mag springs made a difference? If so, a 6 buck extra power spring is a wise investment.

Based on my successful 200 round test, I have also installed the AGP springs in my two carry magazines.
You may be on to something!!! That and using Listerine instead of Scope in the morning may get rid of those pesky fliers I get every 10 shots.

Before you switch mouthwashes you might want to give a new mag spring a try just for the heck of it. Magazines are not going to fix your flyers though. They might however ensure that every shot goes bang thereby increasing your output of fliers making you even more unhappy. . If you are getting fliers, you need to re-consider your choice of bullet and powder (assuming these are reloads) and not be concerned about springs.

I have spent a lot more than six bucks on gun stuff that delivered far less. I can't even get a decent cigar anymore for six bucks. Cheers.

Most of the feeding issues I've had with my 45c have been with the 13 rounder... This sounds like a cheap & promising fix!

Rhino, for six bucks it's certainly worth a try and you should keep extra mag springs on hand anyway.

Villiger... Villiger Export Cigars at Famous Smoke Shop work out to about a $1 each. However I have been forced to give them up for peace and quiet.

LOL. You didn't really smoke those things did you? No wonder you experiencing fliers. It takes months for a Village Export to get out your system. In the meantime, the "residue" effects your grip and eye-hand coordination rendering you a completely unsafe shooter. Send me all your guns for safekeeping until you get a clean bill of health.

I do order from FSS now and then but prefer tobacco in my cigars not sagebrush. Just kidding (I think).

OK, now it's getting very interesting....I loaded up 100 rounds using hard cast lead bullets but this time I didn't finger test the height of the primers, 'just headed off to the range. Now keep in mind, everytime I have done this in the past with the factory mag springs, I experienced at least 3-5 light strikes per 100 rounds. Once again, with the extra power mag springs, not one single failure - and this time I was shooting lead, potentially more probematic all things being equal. I don't know what to make of this but I am not complaining.

Just for the fun of it compare the primers and see if you have a clean firingpin mark or does the one from the factory spring have kind of a tail on it?

Too late now - brass fired with the factory spring is mixed with the brass fired with the extra power spring but all holes look clean.

(Note these springs will not work in the full size 10-round NY/CA restricted mags - different diamter). In the 10-round XD45 compact mag, I cut off one coil.

The tension in both mags is now comparable to my Glock mags. Of course the proof is how well they perform. I'll try them at the range this weekend. Until I am totally confident, the new extra power AGP springs will be for range use only. More to follow.

Kraigster,

I have been looking for someone to make a spring for the XD 45 full size mag and the compact mag. Is their anyway you can post a pic of the 13 round spring beside the cut 10 round compact spring ?
