XD45 FTF issues
Ok Im stuck trying to figure out what to do. I have a XD45 I got right after Springfield started selling them. I have always had FTF issues with it. Normally I have 2-3 FTF out of 100 rounds. To me this just isnt acceptible. I shoot WWB and Remington JHP and both have given me problems with FTF. I clean after every range visit where I normally shoot 200-300 rounds. So after about 800 rounds I sent the gun back to Springfield and they tuned it up for free, and replaced both Mags. But once I got the gun back I still have FTF issues at about the same rate. I have never had this type of problem with any other auto gun. I really like the gun when its shooting its great. But I had to go out and get another gun (S&W Revolver) as I didn't trust this one for primary protection. I also keep reading that most people are not having any kind of problems with their XD's.
My questions to you all: Is 2-3 FTF per 100 normal? acceptible? Do you think SA would possibly replace the pistol? I almost bought another XD45 this weekend cause I do really like the gun. Is there any custom work that I could have do to make this gun more reliable? Matched barrel? I've heard some say the mag springs are to weak. Has anyone tried aftermarket mag springs? And last are their any other 45's out there with 12+ rounds that are more reliable under $1500 bucks? Thanks,

I'd send it back to the factory for them to fix again. I have an XD9, not a .45, but every unit I've rented at the range has always been both reliable and accurate. I'm thinking of getting a compact with a 4" barrel.
Well good luck. And if you were to trade that gun in, just don't get a 1911 if you're not into tinkering with stuff. |

2 to 3 FTFs per 100 are not acceptable.
Nothing you've mentioned will make it more reliable. I would send it back to Springfield again, they will pay for the shipping. Make sure they know it has been sent in once before. If you sell or trade a gun that has problems without telling someone, you're an ass. |

Yeah I wouldnt sell it to someone without letting them know. I have a friend who wants it and I told him about the FTF issues and he still wants it, but I wouldnt feel comfortable with it.

Completely unacceptable, simply for reference purposes, I have over 2k in my .45 with not one FTF or FTE. Call SA, make them fix it for good or replace it. They are normally quite accommodating.
Good Luck

By FTF I assume you mean failure to feed. If that is the case, it may actually be that your mag springs are too strong. I had that problem with one of the two mags that came with mine. No FTFs with one, but a rate of about 10% with the other. I simply left the problem magazine fully loaded for a couple weeks and the problem was gone. I should note that since I'm in NY, I have the 10 round mags.

i've had some feed problems with my 5" tactical. It is usually when i shoot Blazer Brass??? The guy at the range suggested letting the gunsmith work on the breach and trueing up the barrel? i haven't decided yet.

When the problem first happened I noted the Mag, but then it happened on the 2nd Mag as well. After I had SA tune and replace both mags it still happened on both mags.
Yes FTF = Failure to feed I opened a RMA with Springfield and will be shipping the gun out tomorrow. Hopefully they will replace it.

When this FTF occurs, does the round tip up or down in the magwell/chamber area or does it simply fail to strip the round out of the magazine?

The round noses up comming out of the mag and the bullet tip hits the top of the the barrel hole. Like setting along the feed ramp pointing up.
