XD45 Compact, Recoil Spring for 125PF, USPSA

I just purchased an XD45 Compact (4 inch) for carry.

I am looking to compete with the same gun where I only have to meet the minimum PF of 125.

What's the stock recoil spring weight?

About how far down should I go to keep the slide cycling?

I will (hopefully) be competing in the USPSA production division. When I change out the spring, I assume I have to change out the rod (it's a 2 piece compact) as well, what is a good one?

And for really specific information, if anyone reloads with WST, I'd like to hear their 125PF loads in .45 ACP! Bullet, weight and charge!

Welcome to the forum!

Unfortunately, I hate to give you the bad news, but there is no other option for the 4" Compact than the factory rod/spring combo.

The Compact Tactical should have been your choice for competition, you can change out the stock 18# spring with whatever works for your loads (it uses a standard 1911 recoil spring).

What happened to the Don's skinny guide rod for the 45ACP??? I have one for my Tactical and I thought he made one for the Service size too. I don't see them listed on Pistol Gear any more? I know he makes one for the Service size 9mm/40S&W/357Sig. I run 1911 spring in my XD-45ACP Tactical (and my XD-40 Tactical and Service) and have been using an #18 spring with loads as light as 139 PF without a problem.

Interesting, thank you for the bad news. No one makes anything? I don't want to make my own... hehe

I didn't buy this gun to compete, I bought it to carry. I just want to compete with what I carry... I have other guns I could compete with, but if I go full size it wont be with an XD.

I think Don had a few prototype rods for the 4" XD45, but hasn't worked out the rod/spring combo to satisfaction.... yet!

That's good to hear. I'm still looking to be sure (google already indexed this thread!).

I just sent a mail to Springfield also. Thanks for your help so far.

Nope never has been a spring for the 4" Service XD45. Not from Don, not from Canyon Creek, and not from Wolfe.

Start out at about 165 pf and start workin your way down till you get to the point your gun is not running reliablely and bump it back up a notch.
