Its a Rock Island Armory - plain GI model. It goes B00M every time I squeeze the trigger. |

As BOSS302 said, take a look at Springfield's 1911s. The GI Model is the cheapest of their 1911s but the Mil-Spec is a much better (IMO) pistol for not a whole lot more money. If you're determined to go with a single stack magazine, you can't beat a 1911.
In the future, you can always get an XD-45.

I finally had a chance to get a few of these guns in my hand. The ruger is not an option at all, I really dislike the location of the safety. It is way too hard to manipulate for me to trust it in a high pressure situation. The XD felt fine in my hand. They also had a Smith and Wesson M&P45 that felt amazing in my hand. I hate to admit it, but I had no interest in this pistol because from pictures I thought it was really ugly. In person it looked much better.
After looking online the model I would want is a 4" barreled version in black with a thumb safety. ![]() I don't feel like I NEED the manual safety, but I'm used to it and would prefer one as long as it isn't too hard to use. I like that the safety doesn't lock the slide. I also like it has a sear disconnect so you don't have to pull the trigger to field strip it. You can pull the trigger instead of using the tool, but you don't have to. Anyone have opinions on this gun? I know this is an XD forum, but I really like the general attitude of the people here. Plus I'm sure I'll get more diverse opinions that I would on the M&P forums. Last edited by dontshakepandas; 05-02-2008 at 12:21 AM. |

I think the way a handgun feels when you grip it is probably on of the most important factors to consider when selecting a pistol. How you are able to grip and control a weapon when fired will dictate how accurate your shot placement will be. When I handled an XD for the first time it felt exactly like a 1911, which for me is the best feeling guns I've ever handled and fired. That was the deciding factor when I recently ordered a 5' Tactical that will be used for duty and CCW use. Reliability and quality were not as much of a concern since SA, like Ruger, Sig, S&W ect., all have outstanding reputations for producing good quality weapons.
