new to site

Hi,I am new to this site, I own an xd45 service, there is much good info available, I was wondering if anyone recalls an entry where a "race gun" was pictured,I am wondering what the effect of lightening the slide has on performance. It appeared as though there were cuts made in the slide but did not appear to have a ported barrel, I cant seem to find info on this. Thank You for any help or instruction, Stan

Welcome from AZ as well, I do remember seeing somebody cutting slots into there slide but have not seen it in awhile. I would be worried about debri entering the slide through the slots myself, but to each there own.. Enjoy the forum!

Lightening the slide helps to make the gun cycle faster and it is a big help when shooting "mouse fart" (low power) loads. Popular with the high-end race gun crowd. In a defencive pistol, it is an undesirable modification. But if you are wanting to build an XD into a Race-Gun, shooting your own low power reloads, it would help create a very fast-cycling action. As far as porting, you can get extra-long barrels that stick out the end of the slide and are ported (from EFK Fire Dragon), or have Canyon Creek build you a custom comp.

thank you for the info,I did not realize low power loads were used, that makes sense to me, I will leave it alone as it is strictly a defense weapon, so a race gun is for idpa etc?

Welcome. The race guns are cool to look at and fun to shoot but most people use them for the gun games. For a defensive firearm, look into trigger work to lighten the trigger and shorten the reset time or adding night sights. My XD45 Service is stock and I use it as my primary CCW firearm.

A 230 grain bullet with a muzzle velocity of 720 fps will "make major" for IPSC "Open" division, which is where the Race-Guns play.

IDPA is for the Non Race-Gun crowd. It's rules prohibit such modifications, no comps...no lightening cuts...no guide rods that are heavier than stock rods...no optics...etc.

IPSC also has a "Production" division, with similar gun mod rules as IDPA, and it is also very popular for the Non Race-Gun crowd.
